I was reading the American Chopper thread about one of the posters meeting one of the guys on that show. Apparently he was a total dick to him so I was wondering if anyone else has had any similar stories.

Scott Baio was a dick to me when I first moved to LA and was serving him at a nice restaurant in Beverly Hills...

Not really a celebrity anymore, but when we were performing with Freudian Slip in Austin at an improv festival years ago, Chris Kattan was a jerk at this bar after a show...

Most of the celebs I have worked with have all been very nice...

People I've met:

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel
Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman (Ron Swanson)
Ken Marino (Party Down, Role Models, Wanderlust...)
Ryan Hansen (Party Down)
Dierks Bentley

All were extremely cool, Ken Marino and Ryan Hansen especially.

I met Marshall Faulk and he was a giant ***** at first, but I spoke with him again about an hour or two later and he was cooler. Still would classify him in the jerk category.

I think I've met more, but these ones stand out because I had conversations with them.

I'll also note, I have talked to 4 separate people who have met Lance Armstrong and all said he is the biggest dick on the planet.

How the hell did you meet all those people? You in Hollywood?

I was walking past Rebecca Romjin (and her bodyguards) at John Wayne Airport a few years back and decided i would lay the mack down so that later I could tell my buddies that i at least tried. Literally just me and them walking towards eachother in the corridor. As we got close i completely choked and let out a super creepy "hu-heyy", which was completely devoid of any shred of confidence whatsoever. Basically aborted mission in my head before my mouth got the memo. She just kind of looked over at me out of the corner of her eyes with this very peculiar expression...couldnt tell if it was pity or genuine concern for her safety. Anyways, she could have cut me a lil slack.

We saw Wilt Chamberlain in a pretty deserted airport a while back, and my little sister tried to ask him for an autograph. His bodyguard yelled at her to stop bothering Wilt because he was "very busy". I convinced my entire family to move down to sit directly across from him for the next hour while we all waited for our flight. Bodyguard looked pretty pissed, but Wilt just stared at us.

My wife got dissed by Kelly Ripa at a show taping in NYC a few years ago. Considering that she's now my ex-wife, I find the episode mildly entertaining in retrospect.

If I respond in an actual thread about meeting celebrities is everyone going to jump down my throat again for “name dropping”? Regardless...

Unsurprisingly, Paris Hilton and Mischa Barton were the only two truly rude, full-of-themselves celebrities I’ve ever worked with / met. Both were on photo shoots I was working on, and both threw child-like temper-tantrums in front of the whole crew. I even had to take Paris Hilton in a van off the property where we were shooting because she absolutely HAD to smoke a joint at 11 AM. For 15 minutes, Paris, her hair stylist and I sat in a windowless van on the side of the road in a Beverly Hills neighborhood while she talked sh*t about Linsday Lohan and, unlike Ice Cube, didn’t offer either one of us a hit (not that I necessarily would have taken one, but still).

Jeremy Piven was kind of an ass too, but I think it was just because he was tired the day we worked with him more than anything. The main thing I remember about him is that his hair stylist had to make absolutely certain that she could do his “hair” in a private, secluded room. I was confused at first, because I had never had that request before, but then I realized it was because he wears a toupee. He showed up in a hat on set, and since then - via an old Seinfeld cameo - I’ve learned that he’s basically bald underneath. Go figure.

And before he was “famous,” I used to live next door to Taran Killam from Saturday Night Live. As in, our front doors faced each other at our apartment complex, not more than a few feet apart. He wasn’t really rude at all so much as he was just straight up annoying. I can’t tell you how many summer days we would have our porch doors open in that air condition-less apartment - which also faced his porch - when he’d be out there loudly practicing various voices/characters and we’d rather shut our doors and sweat than have to listen to him anymore. At the time, to us, he was just another weird, aspiring actor-type. I hung out with him (and his much cooler) roommates a couple of times and Taran was one of those guys who would just break into some stupid voice mid-conversation. Drove me nuts. Ironically, he seems a lot cooler now than he did back then (like 2005-2007). Though, at the time, he was somehow dating (and now has a kid with) Cobie Smulders - of How I Met Your Mother and The Avengers fame - so seeing her fairly often was a nice consolation.

As for some of the nicest celebs I’ve worked with, Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell are, to this day, hands down two of the coolest, most down to earth celebs I’ve met. Brotron, had you not balked, you probably would have found Rebecca to be super-easy to talk to. Almost flirty. Not that she was flirting with me at all, but that was just her natural personality. And Jerry even helped me break down the set at the end of the day on the shoot we were doing with Rebecca (his wife), which is just something that never happens when it comes to “talent” on a shoot. Olivia Wilde, Kirsten Dunst, Aaron Eckhart, and Brett Favre all stand out as being super cool too, though, like Fslip01, pretty much every celeb I’ve worked with has been decently nice and/or professional, save for the few I mentioned up top.

@Brotron

I'm not in Hollywood (at least not yet), just gotten opportunities to do some cool things here in Texas. Megan Mullally, Nick Offerman, Ken Marino and Ryan Hansen were all at the same event, a Party Down marathon that ended with a Meet and Greet at a bar in Austin.

@TCTTS

I always enjoy your stories and don't ever think you're name dropping. Feel free to share at anytime. Also I talked with a company out there on the phone this week. I will be in the area in about a month so I'm hoping to meet with the guy I spoke with for coffee or lunch. Maybe it will lead to something, we will see.

Thanks, Sex Panther. And great to hear about the LA opportunity. Keep me updated.

As for Robin Cherbotzky (aka Cobie Sumulders), she was super cool/nice. I moved out here summer '05, right before How I Met Your Mother began airing. I started watching the show periodically that September I guess, and then a friend of mine and I were coming back to my apartment one afternoon in October... and there was Cobie and Taran on their front steps, not five feet from mine, both carving Halloween pumpkins. It of course freaked me out somewhat seeing a sitcom star right outside my front door, but we all introduced ourselves (since I kind of sort of knew Taran at the time), discovered that she was Taran's girlfriend, and ever since then whenever I'd see her in passing she'd always said hi. What "impressed" me the most - if that's the right word - was how dirty/messy/not-at-all nice Taran and his roommate's place was, and the fact that Cobie didn't seem to care one bit. My roommates and I -and then Taran and those guys - were all basically right out of college, and their place and ours definitely had a messy, pieced-together, college-guy vibe, and I was always somewhat shocked that a "TV star" would ever stay the night over there. And their place was way more disgusting than ours. Point being, Cobie seemed liked the kind of person who didn't let fame get to her head. She could have easily dropped the then-jobless boyfriend with a crappy apartment, but stuck with him and I'm pretty sure they're married now (they have a kid together for sure).

While I've seen and had brief encounters with several celebrities over the years, I haven't interacted enough with any of them to make judgements. I do have a trusted source of stories though.

My wife worked as an extra on SNL for several years. While practically everyone she met and worked with in those days were all very nice and/or professional, there were a few exceptions, a couple of which shouldn't be too surprising. Her least favorite guest host (and apparently not loved much by anyone on the show) was Catherine Zeta-Jones. Total diva apparently. For example, she stopped rehearsal and *****ed out Don Pardo for supposedly mispronouncing her name (Zeeta versus Zeta). The same Don Pardo that's introduced the host for the entire run of SNL.

Surprise, surprise, but Lindsey Lohan wasn't the nicest person either, but the crew mostly disliked her work ethic and perpetual tardiness. This was a few years back, the episode with the original Debbie Downer skit (my wife is in the background of that skit and in the beginning montage next to Rachel Dratch a couple of times, so she's in every Debbie Downer skit).

Also, while he wasn't necessarily rude or anything, Matthew McConaughey had a severe body odor problem, as in rarely bathed, wore no deodorant and sweat profusely kind of body odor problem. People just didn't want to be very close to him because of it. She was by his dressing room door a couple of times when he was in there and both times she saw and smelled MJ smoke literally billowing out of the dressing room when the door was opened. That shouldn't be much of a surprise I guess.

The only cast member she said wasn't particularly nice was Chris Parnell. I never heard her complain about anyone else. She would normally speak to a cast member in public if the situation was right and it was someone she knew, but we saw him in a bar one time and she didn't speak to him. He looked right at us too.

She's talked about so many other cast members, like Jimmy Fallon, Will Ferrell, Rachel Dratch, Tina Fey, Horatio Sanz, Amy Pohler and on and on, and all of them were cool people that were nice and easy to talk to. Jimmy Fallon has seen my wife on a NYC street in public on two occasions since she stopped working on the show and went out of his way to approach her to say hello. Apparently Will Ferrell is a very down to earth family man that one on one in private is nothing like his public persona. My wife went bowling with Rachel Dratch, Horatio Sanz and some other extras and crew members one time. I like that 99% of her stories about the cast are positive.

During the '75-'76 school year I was part of the pit fire crew at Texas World Speedway in College Station. Got to meet nost of the Indy & NASCAR drivers who raced there that year. They were all cool as hell except for AJ Foyt. He was an *******!!

Danny Ungias had just won the Indy 500 as a rookie driver. When I asked him for his autograph and my pen decided not to work, he went tearing around his garage area until he found one so he could sign my program.

Bobby Unser spent a half hour explaining how all the systems in his car worked to me.

Was trying to get a picture of Johnny Rutherford as he was going out on a practice run. He stopped his car, put up his visor, and waved at me.

Honestly, not that I can think of. I worked with models mostly, and the celebs I named where probably half of the celebs I've worked with, so I haven't really been around a ton for long periods of time - not enough at least to find one who was just the total opposite of their celebrity persona. Most, if not all of them, are exactly like you'd expect them to be, only more normal and - at the risk of using a cliche - "just like us." I've had Linsday Lohan literally stumble into me in a drunken haze - just like you'd expect - and I can't count the number of times I've seen or been around Adam Sandler for extended periods of time and he too is exactly like he is on TV and in the movies (he's another one who is just a super-cool/nice in person). Same goes for other big "personalities" I've worked with like Matthew McConaughey, Jack Nicholson, Matthew Perry, and Jessica Simpson. They're all literally exactly as you'd expect.

Emmitt Smith was a total ass.....

Went the training camp the year he was going in to break the rushing record... Ignored all the kids, everyone, had his own bus all to himself to ride around in...

Family was at Disney when both Full House and Family Matters were shooting their epi's there, and the handlers for the Olsen twins were pretty out there as well (though I can understand part of it being little kids, but they were blocking pictures of them and EVERYTHING)

Sex Panther - Ha, I took a few of the models out for drinks or dinner a couple times after shoots (we flew them in from New York or Europe, so they never really had much to do but hang in the hotel - we almost never used local LA girls for whatever reason), but I can't lie, I never hooked up. In all honesty, after working 15-hour days, all anyone really wants is (actual) sleep. Plus, the vast majority of them were just straight up out of my league. After a rare week-long shoot in Utah, we had an impromptu wrap party where I went hot tubbing with Victoria's Secret / Sports Illustrated model Angela Lindvall, who I got to know decently well, but of course, nothing happened that night.

What year was that? I went to his training camp at UNT summer of '94 I think (whatever summer OJ went on the run in the white Bronco - we watched that live during one of the film sessions). I was in Jr. High, and yeah, he was a total dick to us as well.

Oh yes, AJ Foyt was well known to be an a-hole. My Dad used to hang out in racing circles in Houston and South Texas in the late 50s and early 60s and said the same about him, even way back then.

By the way, we used to go to the Indy car races every year at TWS in the 70s, so we were probably at the same race.

TCCTS -

Yes, there are good stories, but even better ones from the infamous after live show parties. One time she witnessed two guys literally drag Chrsitopher Walken out of the bar, toes down and dragging, after he passed out drunk. This is more of a real people story, but one time she, Rachel Dratch and Amy Pohler worked together to get a keg going again. I think a lot of people expect celebrities to all call for the help when something like that happens, but that's clearly not the case most of the time. I also recall something about keg stands, Tina Fey and Amy Pohler, but I can't remember who was keg standing and who was a bystander, just that my wife helped hold the person up. There are more, I just can't remember the details. I need to hear some of them again (or new ones maybe).

I interned in the sports memorabilia business and met a bunch of sports celebs.

Emmitt Smith was great. After the show in SF, he went out from the back room to shoot the bull with the union guys (mostly young black guys) who were tearing down the exhibit booths. He even grabbed one dude's broom and started sweeping up with the others.

Muhammad Ali was also great with us and the fans. He loved to do corny magic tricks (pull a hanky out of his shirt; make a coin appear behind your ear; etc.) He LOVED the fans who would come up and say nice things to him. He was literally moved to tears when a man gave him a penny from Ali's birthyear. He wanted to hold every baby and hug every child that came through the autograph line. His Parkinson's obviously has slowed him (even back 15 years ago when I met hiim), but he is still sharp as a tack. He was telling us how worried he was to hold up the Olympic torch in Atlanta for the '96 games because that "damn thing was heavy" and he didn't want to drop it in front of millions of people.

Joe Namath and Bobby Hull were the life of the party and very engaging with every one.

No a-holes really, except Jim Brown ragged on me a bit when I got lost taking him from his hotel to the convention center (I was really hungover and in a strange city). And I almost stuck my foot in my mouth when talking about Donavon McNabb (at Syracuse - where Brown went - at the time): I said that he'd probably play WR (what do I know?) in the pros because they always seem to move "those guys" to WR. Brown snapped his head to me and was about to explode at a seemingly racist comment, but I quickly followed up with "you know, option QBs" (which is what I really meant). He calmed down. Pretty funny.

I almost hit Billy Bob Thornton with my car in Westwood once upon a time. He was surprisingly cool about it.

Mike Modano picked a bag up for me in Las Vegas when I dropped it walking out of the gate and was very nice, as was Willa Ford. My wife and I stood and talked with them briefly and it was very cool.

I worked an event with Michael Finley and Nick Van Exel back in like 2003, and both of them were extremely cool. Heard some cool Jordan stories from Finley that was awesome.

Nicest was probably Drew Pearson. He even let me handle his super bowl ring.
