None of those people were famous as atheists though, were they? They most famous conversion away from atheism I can think of is Antony Flew, although he became a deist and not a Christian.

Were they really Atheists/Agnostic or just uncertain or unsure of their faith. I have met a few who claimed they were Atheists when they were younger who were actually not certain and were looking for God.

Money and status can be obtained by atheists who proclaim conversion to Christianity. Neither is likely to go to prominent Christians who proclaim conversion to atheism. The reverse: they are suddenly out of a job. So comparing numbers of prominent converts is meaningless. Atheists in a prominent position within Christianity obviously have kept it to themselves.

None of the ones I mentioned garnered money nor status because of their conversion.

You really think that if a prominent Christian became an atheist that he/she could not garner talking gigs and a publishing deal?

Christian to Atheist or Agnostic
George Orwell
Charles Darwin
Charles Templeton
B.F. Skinner
Charles Schulz
Katherine Hepburn

I'm sure there are plenty more, but these are fairly easy to verify based on interviews or other publications. I like Sinvacation's point.

Also none of them seems to have suffered career wise due to their disbelief.

Templeton was. He was an evangelist with Billy Graham.

ETA: Hepburn never really addressed the issue until an interview in '91, long after her career was over. In many cases, it's either a non-issue or they recognize the potential damage and dance around it. There are a number of celebrities who walk the Pagan line for that reason.

Bart Ehrman - former evangelical seminarian and expert on biblical language and textual criticism, having studied at the Princeton Theological Seminary under Bruce Metzger.

Famous then for writing and performing childrens songs. Famous now for books exposing fraud, redactions and interpolations in the NT.

It should be noted that he defines himself as an Agnostic, so feel free to dismiss him.
