Flixpac has been approved to dole out as much as $5,000 in campaign contributions per election to federal candidates. Presumably, Netflix will use this tool to lobby strongly for strong intellectual rights protection legislation.

I dislike Netflix more and more each day. I imagine my dislike for Netflix will some day be more than my like for money and dislike of cable companies combined.

I support stronger anti-piracy laws, but that doesn't mean I supported the proposed law known as SOPA. And that article doesn't say Netflix wants the old SOPA law. SOPA was poorly written and deserved to go away. But I support stronger protection for intellectual property.

Didn't read the article, so it may have been mentioned, but isn't Netflix somewhat obligated to support stronger protection laws when a big part of their instant-streaming business is cutting deals with movie studios?

Spicewood, do you even know when the concept of intellectual property was invented? Do you know why it was invented? Do you know what the guy who set up American IP law said about it's costs and potential for abuse?

I'll give you a hint. His first name is Thomas and his last name rhymes with Shmefferson.

Really confused.

So, clearly, the formation of a political action committee was a nifty way for Netflix to avoid being directly implicated in the effort to get SOPA-like laws passed.

...is that it? Complete conjecture over things that haven't happened?

Not sure what your point is. So Thomas Jefferson had some reservations about protecting ideas with law. But the Constitution clearly provides protection for intellectual property. And piracy is another facet of this, not anticipated by law makers hundreds of years ago.

What do you want to see, if anything, concerning piracy?

Pretty sure they had pirates back then

Well the pirates of that era were also prosecuted when caught. Maybe they were killed as punishment. But the simply stole stuff for their own benefit. They didn't copy it and redistribute it.

Netflix released an official statement, this is their PAC but it was not created to support SOPA.

stonger IP laws != SOPA

SOPA sucks

Stong IP is good for the economy, and the little guy.
