Hey does anyone know of any Aggie owned and operated bars or restaurant that would be a good place for an Aggie happy hour either downtown area or south Austin?

Thanks!

I have heard Doc's is aggie owned. I have also heard that Romeo's on Barton Springs Rd by Zilker is or was Aggie owned. Mike's Pub winner of the Burger Bracket is Aggie owned, but it is a hole in the wall and probably not big enough for a happy hour.

Just operated, but not owned by an Ag... for the record I reached out to the Capital City A&M club personally to host an Aggie Happy hour at Parkside. I offered them an extended happy hour with better deals than we already offer, and privacy on our patio overlooking 6th street. Their response was a one sentence email blowing me off and saying wasn't enough parking downtown. This felt a little disingenuous since anyone who's worked downtown knows there's unlimited parking at 5pm (everyone is leaving work), and it's free! Regardless, I sent a follow-up email offering the individual I corresponded with to at least come in for dinner sometime (the implication was: my treat) No response. As you can see I am still bitter about this treatment from a fellow Ag

grant, if you ever need a spot for Aggies to congregate the offer still stands!

HMS the person who responded to you was most likely from North Austin and doesn't want to drive.

I live and work downtown, and its a piece of cake to park after 5.

HMS,

I remember you reaching out to the club and I forwarded your offer to the folks who are in charge of the happy hours. I sincerely hope it wasn't my response that you considered a blow off! I will follow up with the happy hour coordinators to make sure they are treating our fellow Aggies well, the club is here to serve Aggies in the community and we need to stick together in this town. If it was me, I sincerely apologize and can only attribute any lack of response to my over-full inbox and busy life. But I do remember communicating with Parkside. Perhaps we can work something out for the future.

Thanks and Gig 'em,

Follow up to my previous post. I was copied on an email where our VP Professional, Bryan Farney, followed up with you about setting up an event. Did you ever connect with him?

Thanks,

Hey guys! I honestly didn't mean to solicit this response here. I don't recall anything in my outlook archives about a future event, but I do remember Bryan's enthusiastic response. Unfortunately, it kind of fizzled out after my email convo with him, but that wasn't his doing. Bryan actually called me today, and spoke about doing something in the near future. He's also gonna take me up on a cheap dinner. Smart move I simply wanted parkside to be on the short list for happy hours. Just wanted to give back to my fellow Ags; that's all!

Hey thank you for all of the replies. Thank you HMS04 for all of your comments and invitation! My wife and I just moved here from Dallas and were very active in the Dallas A&M club. We would like to start up a new Aggie Happy Hour here in Austin and Parkside sounds perfect! We are hoping to make it a "LinkedIn" Aggie Happy Hour, as we were involved in a group like that in Dallas. Basically LinkedIn was just the information board for times and locations. (We would like to coordinate this with the CCAMC!)

I have also heard Freddie's on S. 1st is Aggie-owned. Anyone confirm?

What is Parkside? Is that new?

Not new, but a decent restaurant to have in your downtown rotation. It probably gets more run on TexAgs than it deserves, but it's still one of the better options out there.

Aust Ag, search this forum for parkside to see a bunch of reviews from Ags who ate there and for a review of Harlan's excellent hosting. If you haven't gone yet, you should.

Romeo's is Aggie owned. He posts here on occasion. I'm still sad that they had to close their Georgetown location.

AustinAgChef runs Jaspers. But you probably already knew that.

Yup, I am 100% bona fide woman! and Wadd is correct, I no longer have my ownership stake in Romeo's although it is still owned and operated by friends of mine...

Trouble, I think we actually met at Continental Club one evening... IIRC, you were there with Wadd? :-)

Couldn't tell from the Gallery on your web-site.

An Austin Ag Happy hour would be great!

On the Capital City A&M Club website, do you have to be a member to look at the Aggie Yellow Pages?
