I know I've seen a couple, but I can't remember where. Any dealerships, preferably on the north side, open today?

Fred Haas Toyota World is open. One of the Planet Fords should be open too.

Yeah, Fred Haas was open. Why aren't dealerships open on Sunday? You'd think they'd be closed monday or something.

State law says Saturday or Sunday. If they had a choice, most dealerships would be closed on Tuesday.

It's a state law that makes no sense whatsoever

The state law is that they must be closed one day a week. Most pick Sunday. Some do Monday.

I sold cars and I cherished one day off.

With your keen knowledge of the industry, you should have stuck with it.

quote:
Sec. 728.002. SALE OF MOTOR VEHICLES ON CONSECUTIVE SATURDAY AND SUNDAY PROHIBITED.

(a) A person may not, on consecutive days of Saturday and Sunday:

(1) sell or offer for sale a motor vehicle;
or

(2) compel an employee to sell or offer for sale a motor vehicle.

(b) Each day a motor vehicle is offered for sale is a separate violation. Each sale of a motor vehicle is a separate violation.

(c) This section does not prohibit the occasional sale of a motor vehicle by a person not in a business that includes the sale of motor vehicles.

I always thought they chose Sunday because most financing companies and banks are closed on Sunday.

Anyone know the story as to why that is a law?

It's a holdover from all the "blue laws" prohibiting sales on Sundays. The car dealers still like it because they are not at a competitive disadvantage by closing one day since everyone is required by law to be closed as well.

I believe the Chevy dealerships along I-10 alternate what day they are open, so that every other dealership you pass is open on Sat or Sun.

The dealers USED to not mind it much. It was basically a mutual non-competition rule, where everyone was closed sunday. Now some of them try gimmicks on sundays and have upset the apple cart some, but for the longest time, it was "no expense" day for them to basically shut down.
