fish camp is by far the most self serving fakest thing i have ever experienced. i went and was a counselor. it deserves the rep of being a dewshy club of semi-heterosexual males swathed in all kinds of flamboyant cr/p in the name of "being aggie" and all the hugging and dry humping that goes en route to the mandatory booze binge at the end where half of the counselors end up fooling around with each other while conveniently forgetting the orgy of emotionalism they had at their "campfires" where they shared stories and cried on other dudes shoulders. i'm embarrassed to have been a part of it and would not mind seeing it done away with and turned into an on campus deal that would be less controlled by such a weird group of people.
That's pretty harsh but true nonetheless.
Why do I not have respect for Fish Camp? Because it is supposed to be a cool thing for freshmen where they learn the traditions, meet new friends, and start the adjustment toward college life. That may or may not happen, but FC is first and foremost for the counselors.
Most FC counselors do it to meet new people, find a significant other, or to create a new group of booze buddies. That stupid "After Camp Policy" is the most ridiculous garbage I've ever heard of. An entire weekend dedicated to drinking yourself to alcohol poisoning and hooking up with everyone else in your camp is so trashy and pathetic. Maybe I have so little respect for it because a girl told me she cheated on her BF multiple times during ACP, and it was no big deal to neither her nor the other counselors.
Essentially, it's a big obnoxious clique of neon-wearing uncover nazis. They'll hang out with their fish for a while then never see them again. Unless, of course, the freshmen decide to be FC counselors.
