And I have come to the conclusion that we should just drop football.Years of dissapointment and not meeting expectations has taken its toll. Even in the late 80s and early 90s we could never get over the hump.Face the facts we are a2nd tier program and are a joke to most who are not aggies. Ilove this school but Icant take the embarresment of football anymore

Well, I've only been following A&M football for 38 years. I agree we've been a second tier program for almost all of that time. But like Urban Meyer said, there's no reason we should stay that way. I still back the Aggies strongly, but I no longer lose sleep over the losses...guess that makes me a 2%er. Life is so much easier after you give up all hope.

We have only been here for 8 years, but those have been 8 long, painful, disappointing years.

I've been watching since the late 70s and have never felt worse about a coach than I feel about Sherman.

Borderline worst especially in relation to expectations. During my 50 yrs we've only had two coaches with fuzzy nutz. Bellard and Sherrill.

The others just along for the ride and $.

Well I guess I'm a short-timer (was a freshman only 25yrs ago), but watching us underachieve with great talent is far worse than watching us struggle when our teams are outmatched physically. This is just soul-crushing, given it's so rare that we get talent like this...

Oh my Lord, I was thinking these are some real old timers. Like 75 year olds. And then I realized I have been following ATM football since 1975. So, that is 36 years.

I guess Ll I have to say is get off my lawn.

I have been waiting until next year for about 35 years and I am tired. I no longer lose sleep either. It seems like destiny that we will never have an awesome season. Right now I will settle for a descent season. Win the ones we are supposed to win and be competitive in the others....maybe stealing one we are not supposed to win. Right now, we are told what have a great recruiting class coming in. Therefore, wait until next year.

I'm a proud Texas Aggie class of 1981. That will never change. Second generation, my son is third generation class of 2008. I felt like tonight, for the first time I can remember, we quit. I still believe in Sherman, but I really don't know what needs to be done. I don't lose sleep over it anymore either. I love The University, again, that will never change.

This thread gives me wood.

I gotta say though, don't lose your spirit. The salt of the earth, never say die, always give it hell attitude of the Aggies I knew as a kid was what made y'all what you are to me.

Win like a winner and lose like a winner and never give up. I want you to lose every game except the OU game, but I want you to fight like hell and be Aggies. If you can't get back up and suck it up and give me six good reasons why you're the best team in the country you should've gone to Tech.

We are an elite program in our own minds. Wonderful & unique traditions do not make a program good.

Been following & supporting A&M since 1975. I'll never give up but this season just proves to me that we are simply who we are. And I think what makes some here do disgusted, is knowing deep down, we will do NOTHING about it. Nada. It will set us back even further. Really had a chance this season to build on some success. Prove we kind of belong. Nope. We proved we are 2nd Tier.
We like our role of second fiddle. Gives us something to yell about.
I'm thoroughly disgusted. Come on Byrne, Loftin, & whoever; pull the trigger & stop the bleeding.

Dad was class of 1939 so I guess I've been wanting to puke for most of 58 years. So let's get a little perspectivesince 1953.
1) All military school- for 15 years 2nd tier
2) Also got the equivalent of the death penalty thanks to that grand old gentleman of college football Bear Bryant. His stink put a 20 year hit on the program. To quote before he left "I'm leaving this program with what it had when I got here,a few dusty old helmets"
3)Only time since 1953 we weren't outcoached on a consistent basis was Jackie or Stallings.(despite Stallings record see 1) above)
4)Being a true believer moving away from the Horns to the SEC will take away the cloud that has always hung over the program. Our main goal has always seemed to be as good as tu.

BS...that is why we lose...loser mentality.

When I was there we were a top notch program. Jackie built it, and RC finished it. We were 57-3 at home. We wanted to play Miami and FSU at Kyle, but no one wanted to play A&M at Kyle.

We were dominant in the late 80s early 1990s and a top tier program. But then we joined the Big 12, and we started losing recruits to OU, OSU...and then LSU.

What I have seen is a program that has been in a steady decline for 20 years. We have not hit bottom yet but with the upcoming SEC schedule that may not be too far away. The only good thing about hitting rock bottom is you usually only have one direction to go.

I am so sick and tired of people saying "We have a great recruiting class". I have heard that BS year after year as well. If you don't have the coach(es) that can feed the talent, you continue to suck. Screw recruiting class, that's an excuse - nothing more than that. Motivate the kids and they can do anything.

I never followed the aggies until my first year at school there, which was 1998. Needless to say starting on a high like that has made the last 13 years pretty tough. I think I've been in denial all these years. I'm beginning to transition to the acceptance stage now.

To the OP:

Take a look a Florida. If we're a 2nd tier program, they UF must have been 3rd tier when Steve Spurrier took over.

Prior to Spurrier, UF had NEVER EVEN HAD A SINGLE 10+ win season in nearly 100 years of football. UF hadn't even won an outright conference championship in EIGHTY-THREE years prior to SS. They were nothing more than what Texas Tech is today. A competitive program that produced winning seasons ever year, but rarely if ever took home any serious hardware.

In fact, to this day, A&M has TWICE AS MANY CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS AS FLORIDA! Almost all their NC's, Conference Championships, and Heisman Trophy winners have been in the last 20 years.

What's so frustrating is that our fan base sees the potential to become a major national power. We have a HUGE alumni base with deep pockets. We're 1 hour away from the 4th largest city in the US and in a state that's obsessed with football. We have solid, if not top notch facilies. We're just tired of waiting for a coach that will win and win BIG instead of just talking a good game.

I have been following Aggie football since 1982, when a civil war in my country forced my family to move to Houston as political refugees. I fell in love with the 12th man, their passion, and our school's conservative nature and core values. I ended up getting two degrees from our great institution! (Don't believe in Ag tags because it creates two classes of posters, bs). My two brothers also followed me to A&M. Circa 2000 we all ended up moving back to Nicaragua. Life is better for us down here, once political conditions improved that is. Upon my return I partnered up with two other life long friends that are Aggies as well (Same background, same circumstances) and went into business together. 11 years later, we have managed to make a great success of our venture. In fact, out of our generation that returned to our country, some of the most successful people I know down here are Aggies. We are all quick to give credit to what we learned while at A&M. Our overwhelming pride for the school is often motive for ridicule by other friends/colleagues. We don't care. We quietly believe we were better prepared and we do what Aggies do, stick together.

This is a personal testament to my belief that Aggies can get anything done, individually and collectively. This school is doing a lot of things correctly in preparing our people.

Having said all the prior, and knowing Aggies everywhere are 'doing someone proud', it is hard to believe the fiasco that has become of the Aggie football program. One poor decision on top of another. How can this program that has EVERYTHING in order to win consistently be such a failure? At the risk of being/sounding a little dramatic, it puts the University in such terrible light and gives the perception at large that we live within / tolerate mediocre results.

We all have a part in the making of this inefficient cluster ****. We should all be sick of it. It damages us way beyond the football field. That is why we should all be doing our part in adding pressure to change this culture of losing and underachievement. Fight to change the corrupt way in that coaches are being chosen. Hold the program accountable. How can a great deal of Aggies stand for the status quo and keep rewarding it?

Demand better. Specially the ones that can do something about it, the ones that live in Texas, the ones that are closer to the program. "It's time" alright....to shake the bed!!!

My thought any ways.

17 short years for myself, oh the pain. What gets me the most is watching other schools do so much with one third the talent we have. It has to be in my opinion the fact that the school has gotten to big and politics rule the day.
