What kind of talent did we have last year? How well did we do in Sherman's first season? In Fran's first?

It's simple math:

New coaching staff + new schedule + new face at QB = low expectations

Vegas is in the business of making money, they aren't going to expect us to be world beaters next year.

Good. We saw what happened last year with high pre-season expectations. Put a chip on the team's collective shoulder, and tell to prove everyone wrong.

Uh, 2-6 and winning our OOC games will put us at 6-6. That is VERY likely. Why do you think it's so far outside the realm of possibility?

After being so overrated in 2011-12 in all three major sports and showing such dismal performances in an inferior conference, we deserve to be seen as the underdog. We need to get some W's in this conference to earn any respect. We have a lot to prove, but IMHO, we are making the right moves for long-term success.

If they were going to put us to win, it would be Mississippi state/Ole Miss. Not Mizzou.

While there's a very good chance that we are underdogs in all of those games, the news site isn't even referencing a sportsbook - it's some guy on a message forum posting his projected power ratings/lines.

2-6? Wouldn't be suprised at all

That's a very reasonable mark to expect, and one that I really wouldn't find unacceptable as long as we're competitive most weeks. 6-6 isn't really a terrible start for the first year in a new conference with a first year coach.

We do better than just 2 wins in SEC play. Come on, man.

Last year we were supposed to compete for the conference title and we were average.

Two years ago, we were supposed to be mediocre, and we won a division title.

Three years ago we were supposed to be below average and we were below average.

Four years ago we were supposed to be average and we were god f&**ing awful

Five years ago we were supposed to compete for a division title and we were average.

Six years ago we were supposed to be below average and we were close to a division title.

Seven years ago we were dark horses for the conference title and we were bad.

Eight years ago we were supposed to be average or even bad and we were fairly good.

not true. there is a reasonable expectation that says you will struggle. there is no shame in that. it's not like you're recruiting is gonna go down if you don't win

maybe not, but the perception boost we will GET if we even go 7-5 and just make a bowl game will be HUGE, and we don't get that at 6-6.

so while our recruiting might not go down if we go 6-6, it certainly won;t go up.

and if we want to get to where we want to be then recruiting has to keep trending upward


also, there is a fairly large contingent on here that was against the sumlin hire and is chomping at the bit to come out and blast him when he loses so they can show that they were "right" in not wanting him, even though all that will do is undermine the program. they don't care, though, as long as they are "right"

Vegas is smart. Sounds about right. Very little talent and quality depth on defense, and the SEC is all about defense.
