E-mail them through their website. They'll send you a package on what you need and what the costs typically are. I checked into it a year or two ago. I want to say the cost was around $75,000 for the franchise plus 10% of profits. I may be wrong though. The expensive part, at least in my case, was the land for the restaurant.

Chick-fil-A is $5000 as a deposit on the inventory, and CFA provides all the assets. After a 15% charge to the gross sales, you split profits 50/50. You own only the business rights but get 1/2 profits for only a $5K investment. But you have to be there and manage it.

I understand obtaining a Chick-fil-A franchise is not easy. I think they run a great business and have helped many people go from french fry cook to successful business owner and they very much prefer to award franchises to loyal employees.

In the mid 90s, I applied for the Dallas Galleria store. Through that process, I filled out a 12 page application which included five (1) page essay questions. They said they get around 10,000 completed applications per year, give 200 field interviews, 100 home office interviews, 50 third interviews which includes an offer. I had one of the 50 interviews, but because of my lack of restaurant background wasn't offered a store. However, they did hire me as a corporate office field rep to help open new stores and turn-around failing stores around the country. After 18 months of 90-110 hours per week, I found a different opportunity outside the food industry. Other guys in the program who were married didn't have to work as much because their spouse worked in the store also - almost as a no-cost co-manager.

I'm exploring the idea of importing a chicken restaurant here. Fried chicken is pretty popular in Asia. The big hang up is that you can potentially lose a fair bit of clientele unless your menu is halal.

Church's has shops here but they are re-branded as Texas Chicken. Church's got bought out by an Islamic investment fund a few years back.

There were KFCs all over SE Asia when I was there 12 years ago.

I couldn't tell you the last time I stepped foot in a "nice" Church's Chicken.

But, it does follow my theory that the more bullet holes in the glass, the better the chicken is.

They're still here. There's more than enough market share to go around.

Chili's had a pilot restaurant here which was very successful. They just opened up 5 locations island-wide. In-and-out had a trial day here a few months back and sold out of burgers in 10 minutes. We just got our first real Cajun restaurant, and a half-decent BBQ joint not too long ago. As far as I can tell, there is a big demand for American restaurants overall (not just chicken).

If you're going to do it over there, that's one of the 10 or so cities I'd start in.

Insane economy, "wealthy" (money to spend) people, clean city, etc. can't imagine what the real estate is there, but I'm sure it'd pay for itself.
I had it in mind that there were already a ton of American joints there. Maybe I'm remembering wrong from my time there. Are they all primarily down in that high end shopping area (name slips my mind at the moment)?

Price of real estate is insane. My girlfriend and I are looking to buy. In the area we live in now, condos are going for SG$ 2.5m for 860ish sq ft. Singapore and the US have a free trade agreement which means that US citizens don't have to pay stamp duty which is a really nice perk.

I think Orchard is the name you are looking for. Don't get me wrong, there are some American restaurants here. Wendy's just got here about a year ago. There was a Taco Bell but it flopped, so did TGI Fridays (really bad location). Hooters, Morton's, Ruth Chris opened 5 months ago. There are a few dairy queens, but I've only seen them serve hotdogs.

That's crazy.

Bangkok has more American food than that and I would have thought Singapore would be light years ahead of them.

Open a hot dog joint. They love those chili dogs overthere, with onions.
