Taking a guys trip to Denver the first week of May for Rangers watching and golf. Need some suggestions on where to play.

1. Would prefer it to be in the mountains (will have a car)
2. Prefer fees to be under $60.
3. Nothing too crazy, we're all about 20 handicappers.

Suggestions? I know there will probably be issues with snow even a month from now.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure when the mountain courses start to open, though I did play Beaver Creek last year over Memorial Day weekend. For mountain courses, I'd look at Raven 3 Peaks in Silverthorne. It's about 75 minutes from downtown Denver.

For courses around Denver that are hilly or have a mountain feel, I highly recommend Bear Dance but it's probably $70-90 in early May. It's 45-50 minutes south of downtown Denver. I'd also consider Red Hawk Ridge (Castle Rock) & Fossil Trace (Golden), but both of these courses are not good values compared to other Denver-area courses.... both are probably $60-75.

For good overall courses, I suggest: Lone Tree, Saddle Rock, City Park (great views & gives you a good feel for Denver), Hyland Hills, Meadow Hills, and Fox Hollow.

If you're playing 2 rounds, I'd probably suggest City Park for one round & Bear Dance, Raven, or Red Hawk Ridge for the other.

Every thing that proud said above but the one course he did not mention was the ridge at Castle Pines.

if you can play there around twilight you get a great deal and in my opinion one of the best golf courses in the Denver area

I thought about mentioning Ridge at castle pines north, but it's expensive. I totally agree with db that it's a great course if you can get it for under $80.

I like bear dance but it can be over priced. Arrowhead is cool for scenery but is gimmicky.

Love, love, love bear dance. Also if you're ex military play Air Force academy Eisenhower course. Both closer to Colorado Springs than Denver.

I don't think he actually meant Colorado Springs. I think he was saying spring golf in Colorado. Maybe I'm wrong.

If you are looking for Mountain Golf, you price range won't work. They are all more expensive that that.

One of my Favorites is Bear Dance mentioned above. It is right along the foothills in larkspur so you definitely get Mountain Golf feel without going up to the mountains. In the spring you can often find a deal if you look hard Enough.

Fossil Trace will be fun for someone out of town and has some elevation changes. Almost always in good shape. For locals it becomes gimmicky, but if you are visiting you won't care.

Fox Hollow Meadows and Canyons is a lot of fun. FYI they have three nines. if you can play Meadows and Canyons. Get your tee time as soon as you can because they can fill up fast.

The Ridge at Castle Pines is a great course but as stated can be expensive. if during the week sometimes can find a good deal on GolfNow.

Omni Interlocken is very nice and usually in good shape, but I always feel it is over priced.

Real Mountain Golf (above 8,000 ft) - These are more expensive

I really like Breckenridge Golf Course. Lots of fun. They also have three nine's. Two of them are Jack Nicklaus designs.

Keystone - Has some really nice elevation changes and is usually in great shape.

Vail Golf Club - Nothing special but I love playing here. Don't know why, but when the wind is behind your back here, you can just crush the ball. I have had several 400+ drives here because of the wind and plus 8000+ elevation.

Red Sky and the others often require a hotel reservation at certain hotels, but very very nice and expensive.

We booked Bear Dance. Wouldn't let us play a 5some on a Monday mid-morning but oh well. $75 for everything including range balls. Not bad.

I think we may hit up the City Park Muni on Tuesday afternoon as well. $26 looks hard to beat.

For a cheap course in Denver, try Kennedy near Cherry Creek. Course is usually in decent shape and has a good feel for the price. I think its under $30 most days.
