I've played a lot of golf out there (maybe 10 or so courses) and am heading back soon to play a few rounds. Specific questions though:

1. What's a relatively cheaper course that is underrated? (Please don't mention Badlands, Desert Pines, and Painted Desert, as I've already played those.)

2. Regarding the super expensive courses, I'm considering trying one but not sold on it yet. Not interested in Wynn, so either Cascata or Shadow Creek. Thoughts on those courses? Worth the price at all or just stupid?

I know they are not the cheaper courses but I have had fun on Bali Hai and Royal Links. At times you can find deals at both courses. Also I was able to sign up for an email and got some amazing deals for the TPC course.

Thanks, though I should have listed all the courses I've played already. I've played all those. Looking to try some I haven't played.

My favorite-Bears Best. Next to the Wynn it is by far the best

Second question, Cascatta is awesome but I like Wynn better and it's not and hour trip. You will love Bears best if you decide to play it

I played this one a year ago: http://tuscanygolfclub.com
I went after they had some bad rain, so the standing water did a little bit of damage to the fairways, but I can imagine with good weather it would be pretty nice. Not a bad price either at only $50. Carts came with built in GPS that told you how far you were from the hole. That might not be anything fancy, but it was cool for me since I'm a guy who pretty much only plays muni courses back home.

Bears Best is great, like you said. I have played there. Thanks for the input.

When I lived out there I played Wildhorse (Henderson muni) alot. Fantastic course and very affordable. Located at Green Valley/Warm Springs. A much nicer course than the bargain bin vegas muni courses.

When I lived there we went to Boulder Creek all the time. I think it is the best value out there for tourists. I am pretty sure it is under $100. I used to take friends from out of state all the time. It is a classic desert course with really pretty views of the mountains and the valley outside Boulder City.

Tuscany is hit or miss on conditions. I have played it in tournament shape and I have seen it completely burned. It is very easy. If you catch it in good shape it will yield low scores.

I have played Cascata but never Shadow. I think Cascata is a beautiful place. Of course I always played it with local rates. But it is an awesome course. It is actually only about a mile from boulder Creek.

Coyote Springs is freaking awesome. But it is far. I thikn its 80 miles or so. But it is a great course that I would highly recommend. I played my last round there before moving to Texas. I was playing really well all summer and putting well too. I get out there and three putt four greens in 13 holes before snapping my putter over my knee. Played 14-18 two under with my playing partner putter and shot like 76. The greens are *****es.

I know this is an odd one, and you may thin kI ma crazy, but I like Vegas National. Its an old layout that has not been modernized at all but has a lot of nostalgia. It has some really cool holes including some very cool short par 4's. Also can be hit or miss on conditions. Expect a muni if you go there.

My old home course was Rio Secco. Cant say enough about it. If you havent played it you should.

I appreciate those recs. I've played Coyote Springs and absolutely loved it. Also Rio Secco. I had been considering Vegas National, might do that. Also Boulder Creek. I thought I had heard people talk about that one in the past but wasn't sure.

I'm playing three rounds so I'm considering a cheap, and intermediate, and an expensive. Might do Vegas National, Cascata, and one other. Might even go back to Coyote Springs.

Yea Boulder is great. Make sure it is Boulder CREEK and not Boulder CITY. There is a difference. Big difference. Coyote is great too.

If you do National, try to picture those backyards 40 yars ago with the RatPack, cigars, hookers, blow, etc. I like the nostalgia of it. But it is a muni.

One word of warning about Creek and Cascata. If the wind is blowing 15 in the city it is blowing 30 out there. It is similar to Paiute in that regard. National is probably the most protected course in the city from the wind. I played it about a month ago in some really high winds and was glad I was there and not somewhere else.

Also, about National, it was the first round course in the 1996 Vegas Invitational when Tiger won his first tournament. It was the last competitive day the course saw before the tourney moved on to TPC full time.

Just got back last night. Played Bear's Best on Friday, Wolf Creek on Saturday, and Cascata Sunday. I'm assuming you've played Wolf Creek, but if not, I'll give you the obligatory "it's worth the 90 mile drive" speech.

agsalaska is definitely right about the wind at cascata. it was crazy yesterday. one of our caddy's hat must have blown off a dozen times. the two caddies kept disagreeing about what putts were gonna do because the wind was swirling. i'd say it was probably gusting to 40mph.

OK I appreciate the responses. I'm doing one round at Vegas National. I am going to do one at either Boulder Creek, Primm Valley, or Tuscany. Any guidance there?

Finally, I've abandoned the idea of spending $300+ on a round for now. For my third round, I'm just having trouble deciding between playing a nice course that I've already played (say, TPC, Bears Best, or Coyote Springs), or trying a new one in the same price range. Any other recommendations in the $150-200 range?

Sounds like a pretty good group of courses to play. I have indeed played Wolf Creek. The wind that you and alaska both mentioned is a big reason I'm backing off of the idea of spending so much to play at Cascata. Same with Shadow Creek for even more money.

I played Boulder Creek on Alaskas recommendation. Best bang for the buck in Vegas.

Ok, settled on Vegas National one day, Bears Best the next, and close it out with Boulder Creek. The only thing is that BC said they don't take singles for tee times in advance and to just show up and they'd get me on. I hope that's not a problem!

eh you should be ok.

Remember too the sun sets a lot earlier in Vegas than it does in Texas because it is on the eastern side of the time zone. So don't make it too late.

I played Stallion Mountain on Saturday, a very nice course. The greens are very fast.
