any recommendations or suggestions?

anyone have a hook-up for Miramont (ha ha ha) or, more realistically, Traditions?

I'll be there Thursday afternoon and all day Friday.

1. Briarcrest
2. Campus Course
3. Bryan Muni

In that order assuming you can't get on a private course like miramont, traditions, or pebble creek.

is briarcrest better than pebble creek?

I played PC back in the late 90s and it wasn't private. I've heard it has gone downhill (?) recently (?)

I talked to a member of Pebble Creek last week and he said a lot of the membership is not happy with the course condition.

From what I gathered both greens and fairways have issues. Some members are apparently bailing and there has been at least one meeting between members and the group managing the course asking when conditions will improve.

This is what I heard second hand, so I advise getting more info or opinions before forming your own.

I've never played pebble creek, only private course I've gotten on miramont, but I too have heard PC is having some issues. Briarcrest is usually well taken care of, and it's definitely a fairly challenging course. Best public one in the two cities IMO (although I haven't played the new campus course, just going off what I've heard from others).

How bad is pebble creek right now? I am playing in a tourney out there in 3 weeks and haven't played that course since college (9 years ago).

agfan's list is 100% accurate.

I haven't been to Briarcrest since the summer has started, but I was a member during the spring semester and it was in nice condition. Fun to play with narrow fairways. They are also on GolfNow, I think you can snag a mid-day tee time for sub-$25.

The Campus Course has excellent fairways, but currently have two temporary greens in place. The edges of most of the greens are a little dead also. It's the most expensive, a mid-week tee time will run you $49 and Fri-Sun will be $59. I personally don't think it's worth the $$$ right now, but I'm also on a student budget.

Bryan muni really isn't too terrible for $20 w/cart. The greens are basically carpet but it has a few really fun holes. Fairways are nice and green. I've probably played here ten times this summer, it's hard to beat the $10 walking rate.

Worked at Briarcrest back in 2004 range and it was a really fun course to play. Not sure what kind of shape it is in now though.

If you haven't played the campus course I would throw down the money and play it.

I played all 3 recently. The campus course is by far in the best shape of the 3. Pebble Creek's greens were poor at best (especially for a private club). They are all a lot of fun though

You can call either pro at Miramont (brad or mark) and sign up for a playing lesson, they will pocket the money and let you play the course, friends have been doing it for years

Ended up not playing but from Bush, the campus course looks to be pretty nice. Just a visual while passing by in a car

Aside from the temporary greens, the Campus Course is the best. I played at Briarcrest a couple weeks ago and it was in good shape, but some tee boxes looked like they hadn't been mowed all week, were patchy, and unlevel.

I play at the Campus Course all the time and it's always in pretty good shape. Greens are fast, but roll true, which is something you can't say about Briarcrest.

Muni is in good shape right now with the rain, but like someone said above, the greens are basically carpet.

Did you mean to say aren't fast? Just curious.

No I meant are. The Campus Course greens are faster than any other public course in town, then it's Briarcrest, and then it's Muni. They have slowed up since they opened but they are regularly a 10-10.5.

Briarcrest isn't slow, I just think the Campus Course is faster, and they roll true. You get hops and inconsistent grass at Briarcrest/Muni.

I'm confused. What's the problem with fast and true? Every course's dream scenario, I would think.

Briarcrest's greens are for the better golfer, it's not that they don't roll true, it's that they are harder to read. Briarcrest consistently maintains better greens than both the public courses and pebble creek.

When I say they don't roll true, I mean you get more hops because of inconsistent grass mainly. They are hard to read, but no harder than the campus course. The one knock on the campus's course is it is dead around some of the edges and they are addressing it.

The one thing I absolutely cannot stand about the campus course is the grass around the bunkers. They don't trim it down, and the course rule is if you can't see your ball it's an embedded lie that you can remove without a stroke, if you can find it. Apparently a lot of people have a problem with it, but the one higher up that doesn't is the one who has the most say about it.

I like Briarcrest, I just like the Campus Course more. The tee boxes are the biggest reason I think. Briarcrest's are absolutely terrible.

To putt good at Briarcrest you have to know the greens. The grain plays a big part of the greens. Once u know that u can take 5 to 6 stokes off your putting.

Campus course was in great shape this weekend. Not sure why anyone would say to play Briarcrest over it, oh wait this is texags.

So was pebble creek (greens could have been faster but rolled fine).

They should be opening 10 and 18 greens up soon. I checked 10 out the other day and it's still pretty rough around the edges, not sure about 18/putting green. Looks like they're cutting the grass around the bunkers now too! Here's to hoping.

I played the A&M course with mpezll on Friday and it is nice to have the special they are running right now during week days. Even convinced the cart girl to give an extra beer instead of a snack as part of the special.

In regards to course condition I will say it is good, but not great. Of course with the rise in temperatures the rough is starting to thin out, and for those who have played the new course the rough is what makes this course kind of unique. The rough is very thick and you can lose more balls in it than water. The greens were fast as usual, much faster than what I am used to but rolled true. There are some sand/dead spots on multiple greens. I know I putted out of one of these areas on hole 2. Temporary greens still on 10 & 18 but they are looking better.

Overall I still like the course and am happy about the current rate specials being ran while students are gone. The course is fun and challenging at times. The one thing it needs is to have GPS for the phone apps. The yardages seem to throw me everytime I play there. This could be the wind and other variables but it is tricky at times. Again, I would definetly recommend going during the week if possible to get the play all day special running until mid-late August!

^^There's an App for the course. Search "The Campus Course at Texas A&M." I'm not sure if they've worked all the bugs out of it yet. At one point it was either a hole ahead or a hole behind. I just started bringing a range finder, much quicker.

The campus course condition was great, I played it with Cab on friday. Greens were rolling great. Only complaint is the 2 temporary greens, but that will be fixed.

Pebble creek was good, greens rolled fine, but could have been a little quicker.

Played Briarcrest yesterday. Full disclosure - I was a member until they began having problems 5 years ago and have not played out there in 3 years. Greens are still excellent for the most part. Tee boxes are a disaster. Off the fairways, the course upkeep looks minimal, with the exception of the bunkers which are still good. The overgrowth of foliage in the pond on the 8th and 9th holes makes the place look "muni" (which, I guess, is what it is now). Priced better than the campus course.

It's not priced better when you take into consideration of the weekday special currently going on. Weekend rate is better at Briarcrest though.

I like the walking options for the weekday at the campus course which Briarcrest doesn't offer either. I like both courses. Greens are good. They offer different layouts. If the campus course had tree lining the way Briarcrest does I'd like it even more but you can only work with what you have.

Ok FYI tall grass on bunkers since there are 156 bunkers on the new campus course this grass was let to grow to slow the rain from washing out the bunkers reducing the maintenance for the greens crew and keeping the course open . FYI the dead grass around the greens is from the freeze damage of the past winter and the new greens were not mature enough to withstand this tough a winter greens 18 and 10 were the last to green to be built . They did not make it though the freezing winter.
Thisguy1
How long do you want to ignore this user?
You don't see that tall grass around the bunkers anywhere else. I don't claim to play a lot of courses, but I've never seen it. That answer just seems like a lazy one. It is my number one pet peeve about the course, and I play it around twice a week. I can't tell you how many drives I've hit that I've lost in that grass. At least if you hit in them on the green side bunkers, you usually have a rough idea of where it's at. Off the tee it's hard to see where they end up on a lot of holes. I've worked maintenance on a course before and I realize bunkers are a pain in the a**, but out of everyone I've talked to about it, 1 person liked it because he liked the way it looked. And I know people complain about it because I know people that work there.
RCL1

I know people that work there too and there allot if players who like it. It got too high this summer and they will keep it down going Ito the fall.
