Has anyone here played it? Going to be in the the OC in a few weeks. We currently have a foursome booked at a nearby public course, but I am considering moving it to Torrey Pines (assuming I can book a tee time here...prob a long shot) given how cheap the twilight special is for non-residents. South course may be a little out of our price range and a bit too difficult since we will have one very inexperienced golfer and one cheapskate.

Assuming we are able to get on, is the North Course worth the 1+ hour drive? It has always looked awesome to me, but I seem to recall people being critical of it on other forums.

South Course has great views, but I wouldn't pass up a chance to play the North Course, played it last summer and it was great.

Played there a few months back. You shouldn't have any problem getting tee times if you do it early enough. Otherwise get there early and wait in line to walk on. I was there at 730am on a Wednesday so it's likely worse on weekends but I waited 20-30 min.

Call the pro shop and they'll let you know the best option.

North course has some great views throughout the middle of the course. 4-12 if I remember right. 5 is a fun one with a blind tee shot... If you're left you're dead and the right side is protected by a bunker at the little dogleg. Regardless youll have a great view. 6 is a great par 3 with the best view on the course and plays way down hill with a nice crosswind. 7 plays uphill and is where you start to move away from the ocean for the most part.

Course was in great shape and worth the money.

To echo above, South is a little more scenic but also more difficult and expensive. But it's not crazy difficult by any means, especially if you play the right tees. North is great and scenic too though, so you'll enjoy it. I think they are both worth the drive.

That said, make sure you are willing to pass up playing a course (South) that a fantastic US Open (won by Tiger on a broken leg in a playoff) was played on. Some things are worth the extra price and difficulty.

Thanks guys, I think you can book up to 7 days in advance, so I will mark my calendar. Will be twilight on a wednesday so hopefully shouldn't be too crazy.

If it were me and my normal golfing buddies, I'd book South for sure.

The North course actually I think has some great views as well, especially the middle of the front 9. There aren't near as many bunkers and the greens are not quite as undulated so for the inexperienced golfer it would be a better choice. They can still be tough if you are above the hole but I loved it, and I have been lucky enough to play both.

North course is better for twilight as the pace of play is faster than the south course.

If I want to play the South course on a Tuesday and I can get there around 0630, I should get on pretty easy, right?

Do I just place my bag at the starter shack upstairs to get in line?

I really want to get an early start with the South and turn around to play the North, hence the 0630 plan.

Both courses are awesome!

The North has a par 3 where the green is about 60 feet below the tee and you're hitting out toward the ocean into the wind. One of the most amazing tee shots I've ever played.

I've played both twice each - you can't really go wrong with either one. I thought the North greens were harder to play - it seemed like they were so irregular. Super fun though. You just can't make a bad choice.

That early on a Tuesday a should be good but again, call the pro shop to ask what they think.

They were honest with me when I decided to play last minute and it worked out just like they told me. I believe they host some regular events so it might be good to see if they're wide open that day.

Just got back from getting my resident card. Now I can book 7 days out (they release 6 tee times/day for non-residents up to 90 days) and super cheap rates ($76 on the South for weekends vs. $229).

Hoping to play the North next weekend.

Awesome

I would be playing Twilight as often as I could @ $46 South/$24 North.

That's amazing.

When work and kids allows I plan to.

Hadn't been there in years, forgot how beautiful it is. Think I'll start hitting the driving range there instead of where I go. Only 5 minutes further and worth it to just be there.

Jealous - at least a little.

Playing the North at 7:45 Saturday. Was able to call and request 8:00 tee time for four and that was the closest. Once my game improves I will start doing the South.
