Going to Pine Dunes for the first time tomorrow to play 36. Has anybody been out there recently? Any pearls of wisdom?

How many bunkers did you hit it in?

#3 plays long, #4 IS long. Hard greens to read.

#18 is about 275 carry to get over the water from the blue tees.

Recap for anyone who is interested:

Accommodations
-The apartment/condos form a U just to the left of the 18th with patio and porches with chairs facing out.
-The rooms were not the Hilton but more than adequate for a guys golf trip.
-Our condo had three beds and a futon, I'm not sure of the other condos layouts.

Practice Facilities
-I couldn't have been more impressed with their practice facilities.
-The range was huge and balls were already laid out when we got there.
-The chipping area was an actual green that was of similar quality as the ones on the course and there was fairway grass up to probably 60 yards to hit from.
-The putting green was huge.

Course
-The course is an interesting combination of incredibly nice and somewhat backwards.
-The greens and fairways were in great shape, the bunkers were well maintained, and the rough was just penalizing enough to make you think about it on tee shots.
-There were no yardages on sprinkler heads and the course doesn't have a yardage book so be sure to bring a range finder.
-We played from the Blue tees (~6500yds) and the course was pretty manageable.
-All but one of the par 5s was reachable, that might change if there had been any wind at all.
-The par 3s were a good mix of long and short, ranging from ~120 to ~220.
-The greens were relatively slow, but I guess that was due in part to all the rain the course has gotten recently. The course could play much much harder if those greens were a bit faster.
-There weren't really any gimmick holes

Other
-The staff in the clubhouse and the 19th hole were incredibly nice.
-The beverage cart was out and came by with more than enough frequency.

More than happy to answer anybody's questions about it.

What did you consider "backwards" about the course? Just the lack of sprinkler yardages?

Just curious. I've played it a couple times and not sure what you mean.

I have an old yardage book from about 8 years ago. They used to have them in the pro-shop.

It was just a little backwards to me that they have this amazing golf course, legitimately one of the nicest I've ever played, and they don't have yardages other than 100-150-200. Like getting a Bentley that only has a tape deck. It isn't a real negative, it just surprised me is all.

I love the place. Reminds me a bit of Pinehurst #2 before Pinehurst was redone. Pure golf, no houses anywhere around. You don't see the clubhouse or any other signs of civilization until you get to #18.

Other than the tee shot at 18 and perhaps the tee shot at 4, there is nothing awkward about it. It's just a very straightforward golf course that fits the land beautifully, with a refreshing absence of design gimmicks. Challenging enough, without beating you to death.

Just wish it was closer to B-CS.
