How long do you want to ignore this user?
I am 6'5 and have had two back surgeries in the past three years. Handicap is currently 6.5 but I have lost a significant amount of distance since the surgeries. Played with a guy the other day who casually noted my downswing was steep.I have never had a lesson so not sure how to correct this . Thoughts/suggestions?

My advice is to give people who give unsolicited opinions/observations/advice about your swing a swift kick to the nuts. Ignore it.

While I wouldn't per say take that specific advice, I would consider seeking help to make swing and setup changes from a PGA instructor to keep your back problems in check.

I, as sure as you and a lot of others, know that missing time from the game due to injury is freaking terrible.

I'm 6'8 and my downwing is steep as well - according to the golf pro that I have taken lessons with, it's going to be steeper than a normal swing, just due to my height, even with fitted clubs.

Sometimes being tall can be difficult. Anyway, just thought I'd share.

tall people - steep swing path
short people - flat swing path

It's ok to be steep/flat - you just need to make sure your equipment and setup accommodate it.

Look at Kuchar - he is tall and lanky and has flattened his swing tremendously, so he is an example of a tall guy going flat. That works too - you just need to figure out what is going to work for you.

I agree with all comments. And since you have had back problems I would suggest finding the very best pro/teacher you can find if you decide to go that route. You need someone who is very familiar with back problems.
