I am only going to be able to play once. Should I take my sticks or rent them?

I am going to take my own! But for discussion what does everyone else do?

I usually just rent. Less of a hassle for me and depending on where you go it can be cheaper.

Contact the club you're playing, inquire as to what brand & model of clubs they rent. Unless it's a set that you'd rather play with a shovel versus those, rent if it's only one day / one round.

Always take them.

Depends on how much to rent. If you already have a travel bag, you are likely to save lonely by bringing your own.

For me, depends on the situation. What is the rental car situation, am I already checking a bag, etc. Probably the biggest factor is where I'm playing. Some course I don't care about: rent. Some course I'm really pumped to play: take them.

Most often I take my own sticks.

Most of the time it's more expensive to rent clubs then it is to take your own clubs. Make sure you have a hard travel case though! They aren't gentle with luggage!!

Disagree with the hard case. Just get a good travel bag with a Stiff Arm to protect your shafts.

I've checked my clubs in a soft case without the stiff arm and been fine. I'm a high handicap and still take my own. I also get one checked bag free on United so that's why I normally just take my own.

Hard cases don't typically fit well in rental cars

I always take my clubs. And it happens a lot. I have never rented clubs in my life.

I've only rented a couple of times. Almost always prefer to take my own. Renting is ok if it's a business related round of golf, and on a course that isn't one of my must-play courses, and the course has good rent sets, and I can expense the rental fee, and renting keeps me from having to check luggage. Need all of those to apply before I'll think about renting.
