If anyone notices HEB's brisket go on sale I would appreciate a post on here. I always seem to miss it and want to collect a couple for the freezer.

With that said, the news says there is somewhat of a cattle shortage and with impending drought, maybe much more of a cattle shortage coming soon. Hopefully this does not affect how often HEB puts brisket on sale as it surely will affect beef prices.

HEB will still put them on sale; however, they may not be as cheap as in past years. As you mentioned, the drought will probably lead to the price of beef going up.

You can always check the HEB website. They post their weekly ads.

They had their fully cooked brisket on sale today.

Price of feed is going up... beef won't be as cheap this year.

But, good times for cattle sales.

true Wadd....I took a few calves to auction 3 weeks ago and made more than I can ever remember. It just about covered the property taxes for once.

Allen... we averaged $660 a calf last sale... and got some good $$$ for an old cow...

.99 briskets are long gone! Retailers are currently paying about $1.80 and cattle futures are going higher.

Only way I get 99 cent briskets is to butcher our own...

Live cattle cost $1.20 so even butchering your own would cost more than .99.

I guess it depends on how look at it ; )

Right now, briskets in HEB are marked "Limit 2" with a price of $1.54 or $1.56 a pound (cannot remember which).

The "limit two" tells me this may be as low as it ever will be for a very long time.

Work at HEB, and any meat that has to be cut in store or the brisket or ribs are usually limited. Sometimes it varies by neighborhood, if it doesn't sell that fast they may not limit it.
