Did we bomb on next year's incoming freshmen?

It looks like the incoming pitchers had below average seasons and could not find any incoming player highly ranked nationally?

As a long time fan of Aggie Softball, any positive information would be helpful.

Sara Mireles has been nails for four years at Canyon. She took a step back, but she wasn't a bad pitcher. The body of work is there, and the talent is there.

Don't know how Kayla Klein did.

Alexis Cooper is verballed for 2012. Abby Donnell is committed for the 2013 class. Still growing as a pitcher, but had 180 Ks in 95 innings with WF Rider.

I haven't checked myself, but I have heard some folks say that a lot of HS pitchers didn't do as well this past season with the new 43 ft. distance.

We've had 43' for two years in Florida. It doesn't take long for pitchers to realize the importance of screwballs, curveballs, and drop balls and having another 3' to move.

Lauren Ainsley from LaVernia was pretty dam# good this year. Her former pitching coach describes her as a righthanded cat Osterman.

Let me say up front that I am very happy that Lauren choose A&M and hope she has a great time here. It would also be nice to get an Aggie RHP “Cat” on the mound.

However, all that being said, in Softball it is all about pitching. Mel was nationally recognized coming out of HS but still found the transition to college level challenging. Toward the end of last season, she began to hit her stride and hopefully she will have two great years ahead of her. But after Mel, there is a sharp fall off and we will need one of our incoming pitchers to step in to the void.

Hopefully, Lauren can do that but if MaxPreps ratings are anywhere on the mark her stats are somewhat underwhelming: Overall: 31-11-0 League: 12-1-0 National Rank: 498 TX State Rank: 72

On a more positive side, Lauren had a good ERA of 0.65 and 286 Ks vs. 22 BBs. Perhaps with good coaching and a strong off/def team behind her—her “Cat like” talents will flourish.

Looks like incoming freshman Brittany Clopton, an outfielder, playing for Impact Gold, was invited to the Under Armour All-American softball game at Disney World in mid-July. Top 30 players in the nation were invited and the game is usually shown on ESPN. It's on the ESPN Rise website.

The shame of softball is you either have excellent pitching or you dont, and never crack the top tier.

Even more so than baseball, softball is completely dominated by elite pitching. If you don't have a top 10 level pitcher nationally, you really have no chance of reaching the WCWS. I wish they would do something to rectify this imbalance, maybe move the mound back a bit to give hitters more of a chance.

FWIW, there were more runs scored per game at the WCWS than in Omaha, and Arizona State gave up more runs per game en route to the WCWS title than South Carolina did winning the CWS.

Our pitching is good enough, we don't need half the lineup hitting .260 or worse.

Also, per the softball website, it looks like we got a pretty good transfer from Georgetown. She's a sophomore from Huntington Beach, CA (close to the epicenter of softball if you asked any Californians). She played 3rd, SS and 2nd for them. She had the 2nd highest team Slugging percentage.
