Ok, give me your top 5 Aggie baseball moments (that you remember):

1) Beating FSU in 2011 to advance to the CWS

2) Beating Clemson in 1999 to advance to the CWS

3) Miracle on Rice - Justin Ruggiano hits a grand slam in the bottom of the 8th to beat Rice in the Houston Regional (against Phillip Humber BTW) - 2004

4) 2011 Big 12 Tourney Championship - Collazo hits a walk off homer in the 10th to win it

5) 2010 Big 12 Tourney Championship - Brodie Greene hits a walk off homer to beat Baylor 5-3.

Was at all of my favorites:
1)Ruggiano home run at Rice regional was just a magical weekend punctuated with a magical swing of the bat.
2)Thebeau's unreal performance in the if nesc game to win a regional. Thebeau! Thebeau!
3)1999 regional at A&M. Lost the first Saturday game and fought our way back to a regional championship with a zillion homers. Let Jaime pitch!!! Rain delay, lots of fun.
4)Being at the college World Series with my sons on Fathers Day to watch the Ags play South Carolina.
5)Brodie homer at OKC
6)Collazo homer at OKC

How can you rank an 11-2 I think win on the road more exciting than a 5-4 win at Olsen that featured two solo homeruns off the nations top closer who had not allowed a HR all season to give the Ags the lead.
Then bringing in your ace in the bottom of the 9th with the tying run on 2nd base to strikeout Clemons best hitter.
You can't

1. Sweeping t.u. at home in 1991, storming the field, and sawing off Varsity's horns with the players.

2. The entire 1993 regional. It was absolute perfection.

3. 2008 at Baylor, Sunday. Instead of words:
quote:
Score by Innings R H E
----------------------------------------------
Texas A&M........... 100 100 226 01 - 13 18 1
Baylor.............. 110 041 230 00 - 12 22 4
----------------------------------------------

4. 2011 at FSU Super regional.

5. 1998 taking the Big 12 title Saturday at Baylor. The Saturday night game was an all-timer. Moment of the game would have to be John Scheschuk (sp?) scorching a line drive triple off of their center field monster. I've heard from a lot of people that Bill Hickey flipped off the Baylor crowd at the point, but I didn't see it.

Was at the Baylor games in 1998.
Last weekend of regular season.. Series winner took the big 12 title.
Ags and Bears played in front of a standing room only crowd Friday at Olsen . Scored 5 in the first under threatening skies, en route to an 8-1 victory. Ryan Rupe was dominant.
Next night in Waco Ags led 5-1 and Baylor cut it to 5-4 late. As mentioned Schesch hit a 3 RBI triple after Baylor intentially walked Craig Kuzmic. Lots of Ags in attendance.. Nearly brought down the old Ferrell field. One of the wildest moments I've ever seen In watching A&M athletics. It was classic.
Both the '98 and '99 Baylor series were epic.
Great memories.
All played in front of standing room only crowds with Aggie Alley overflowing each game at Olsen

my top Aggie Baseball moments (in no particular order) that I was present for, some already mentioned

1. 1989 DH vs Texas. John Byington Day

2. 1991 sweep of Texas

3. 1992 East Regional Day 3
Ags lose Friday night to Georgia Tech 2-3 then turn around the next day and beat #1 seed and Host Florida and Georgia Tech. The 2 wins put A&M in the Regional Championship game with Granger pitching against Cal who we beat earlier in the tourney 15-6. 8th inning collapse sends Cal to Omaha.

4. 1993 Regional
Game 1 vs Yale ends at 2am, Ags win an intense game over UCLA pulling away late with a Lee Fedora grand slam. Championship game against North Carolina, even the NC players were impressed.

5. Watching the Ags play at Rosenblatt in '93 and '99.

6. 1995 15 game win streak
Not included in that win streak but Jeff Baileys bot 10 grand slam to beat tech by 1.

7. 1998 and 1999 Baylor series. EPIC

I remember Scheshuk running behind the home plate area yelling at Baylor fans and celebrating and the the Ag fans going crazy, several were climbing the backstop (Ags were sitting right behind the first base dugout)...Baylor fans were not leaving they stayed to yell at us and the A&M players in disapproval and just watch the celebration. Baylor's hatred for A&M grew a little that day. I too honestly thought that old temp style bleachers we were sitting in was going to collapse.

8. 1999 Regional
Long Beach State was the best team in that Regional and for the Ags to win twice against them with our backs to the wall was very impressive and often overlooked bc of what happened the following weekend.

9. 1999 Supers vs Clemson

10. 2004 Regional Win over Rice

perhaps the most exciting finish to a regular season game...the Sunday finale at Olsen vs. #1 Nebraska in 2001.

bottom of the 9th...Ags down 4-3 w/2 away and runners at the corners...Neal Stephenson doubles into the gap in LCF...if the runner on 1st base beats the relay throw home the Ags win the game and the series. He did. That was electrifying

Beating FSU in 2011 is the most memorable for me since I was a grad student at FSU at the time.

I wore my Aggie jersey and sat in the student section. Some friends gave me crap before the game, but it sure was a great feeling to watch the Ags dominate an opponent in an elimination game on the road. Plus, I caught a foul ball off a Wacha pitch in the 1st inning - pretty great day!

Meh.. Failed to make tourney that year. That series and game was exciting but I can't even put that on my top 10 list.

During my time, most memorable plays/games for me gotta be:

1) Florida State super-regional
2) both Hales' and I's shutouts @ t.u.
3) Brodie's walk off at the Big 12 tourney
4) Omaha
5) Collazos walk of at Big 12 tourney

1. April 30, 2005 vs. OSU
It was the first Aggie baseball game I ever went to. We lost that game 0-8, but I still had a blast and that game got me hooked.

2. June 4, 2007 vs. Louisiana-Lafayette (College Station Regional Final)
I wasn't there because I was back home for the summer. I listened on the radio, and it was magical. I started shouting when we won that game, and my mom rushed into my room asking me what was wrong. When I think about this game, I can actually picture it and feel it in my memory as though I was there. I will always love Dave South for that.

3. April 12, 2008 vs. Oklahoma
It was Parents' Weekend, so there was a huge crowd. It was a pretty tense game. Three of our coaches got ejected. One came up to sit with us for a few innings. Ha.

4. The entire 2008 season in general, including a sixteen-game conference win streak and a Big 12 Championship.
This is the best season of Aggie baseball that I've experienced. Also my senior year, so this season meant a lot to me. I went on a number of road trips, and it was tons of fun.

5. May 12, 2012 vs. San Diego State
Ross Stripling throws a no hitter. I showed up around the second inning, because I had gone to my sister's graduation earlier that day. But after the celebration, I took my other sister out to the ballpark, which was nice.

Superstition FAIL!

One of my top five moments was in 2008 at Baylor. We had taken the first two games in the series but were trailing 12-6 after 8 innings in game 3. The twits in the Baylor crowd were in full celebration for having salvaged a game of the series. Surprise on them as we scored 6 in the top of the 9th to tie it and on more in the 11th to win it.

Well, I am ridiculously superstitious, and I saved that ticket. I have it to this day, and it has made every Aggie road trip that I have made since then.

I even scanned it for this thread... which is when I realized that I apparently threw the lucky ticket away in 2009 and have been carrying this loser around for all of these years.

A ticket from an 8-7 loss at Baylor in 10 innings in 2009.

I can confirm that Wild Bill did NOT flip of the Baylor crowd that day. What DID happen was that, at the end of the game when the Aggie fans in attendance (myself included) were literally climbing the backstop, and it was swaying several feet, Bill ran by and shouted "Tear the mother-f****r down!"

The only time I can remember Bill flipping anyone off was the 1995 (I think) Tceh game. A&M tied the game in the bottom of the 9th, brought in Paul Barber to pitch in the 10th, and he gave up 4 runs. The Tceh players/fans were going nuts. Well, in the bottom of the 10th, A&M scracthed a run across, loaded the bases, and Jeff Bailey yanked a Granny down the right field line (only a few feet fair.) Bill then ran past the Tceh dugout, given then an altered "guns up" shouting "Take that back to Lubbock you mother-f*****s." (I sense a pattern. Man I miss Bill.)

My personal favorites?

1. 1999 Regional final.
2. Jose Cruz, Jr. telling us "that Oh-fer s**t was raw" following a Rice/tu game at the SWC tourney.
3. Daylon Holt game winning home-run where he tossed the bat in the air (I think Baylor, but hell, I had probably had a lot of beer by then.)
4. Granger 21K's against LCU.
5. Cookie Massey. (If you have to ask, you are too young.)

Great moments in this thread.
I will throw in a few others
1999 Sunday game vs Okahoma State. Never was any love lost between the Ags and Oklahoma State back in the 90's. Ags looking for a conference opening sweep. OSU took a 1 run lead into the 9th. Got 2 quick outs then Scarborough kept the Ags alive with a 2 out single. Steven Truitt then followed with a Walkoff 2 run homerun.

1995 SWC tourney at Olsen. Come from behind wins over Rice and Texas and then knocking off Tech in game 1 before falling in winner take all game. Great weekend of entertaining games.

1998 and 1999 Baylor series.. Can't mention those games enough. Aside from the 1989 Texas series those series were the most hyped and most anticipated regular season games I can remember

Playing in a early season tournament in the superdome in 1995.

Wadd, the Sunday 1995 Tech game was my last cut to get down to five.

1993 regional... I thought of Cookie Massey, but also the Hawaii fans, and the post-midnight first pitch against Yale. Those six team regionals were perfect from the fans' perspective!

Can't help but notice none of these moments occurred in the SEC. Of course we have been in the league only a short time, but it doesn't seem that we are close to creating any new memories.

1989. Had a lab or study group or something one Tuesday night on campus. Just as I parked, we were 2-3 runs into an inning against Nebraska. I said to myself, "Self," I said, "I'll go in when this inning is over."

Sat there for almost 45 minutes while we scored 17 in that inning.

Yes, I was late, and would do it again.

No, aside from maybe LSU in baseball, we're probably not close to replicating any kind of rivalries in the SEC rivaling that of what we had in SWC/B12. It was a good move for football, but I sorta wish we could have stayed B12 in baseball and basketball.

To stay on thread, the '99 Clemson game had such a incredible finish, I felt compelled to call my dad "of advanced years", who was seated lower-level 3rd base, to see if he was alright.

Agree for basketball since it is a better basketball conference top to bottom and more passion overall than in the SEC. Baseball just needs a little time for the rivalries to develop and eventually the sips will get over their little hissy fit and we'll be able to renew the baseball series with them and a few other B12 schools.

People have posted this before and I agree 100%.
When we play Texas, Baylor , Tech . Obviously there is a rivalry and passion that we don't have right now with SEC teams.
With the big 12 teams there is so much familiarity not only with the program but the players and coaches as well.
Every media outlet in sate covered big 12 .. Not so much with the SEC.
You knew the players on opposing teams rosters, liked saw them play in HS, students in the stands went to HS with them, you knew the coaches and their past.
That's one of the reasons I think there was more interest from aggie baseball fans in big 12 baseball than there is in SEC baseball.
I miss big 12 baseball compared to SEC.. Not ashamed to admit it.

Aggie,

I agree with where you're going, but I think that your argument really holds more water for being in a conference with the other Texas schools than the Big 12 as a whole.

I don't think that KU/KSU/Mizzou brought anything to the table. Nebraska seems to have had its moment in the sun, but all that's left now is a BEAUTIFUL ballpark. Certainly their move to the B1G was the last nail in the coffin for their program, but they looked headed to irrelevance even before they left the Big 12.

OU and OSU were easy roadies, but OSU's fall from national power to the middle of the pack was one of the great disappointments of the Big 12.

If I were going to select a conference with only baseball in mind, we'd probably still be in the SWC inviting Arkansas to rejoin and OU and OSU to ditch the Big 8 and join. It would look like:

Arkansas
Baylor
Houston
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Rice
Texas
Texas A&M
TCU
Texas Tech

I do think that the SEC is currently the best baseball conference in the country, but the travel requirements just don't make any sense for our non-revenue sports.

Texas Double Header in '89. - Still never forget my girlfriend at the time (now my wife) wanted me to go to her home (Round Rock) and meet her parents that weekend.

Was driving back from Round Rock at over 100 mph and made it back to The Chicken to see the Byington Grand Slam to win it.

I knew I should have stayed in CS that weekend.

Going to watch Casey Fossum throwing a curve ball at the head Baylor's big LH hitter at a crucial time of the game with runners in scoring position. Think that was 1998. It was a great game for Casey in Waco that day.

Big curve would start at the head and as the hitter froze and leaned back it dropped down into the right lower inside corner of the plate. Struck him out using that pitch alone if memory serves.

Casey had about the best curve I've ever seen on the college level.

"Big John" Byington(all 5'9" of him) going down town in the bottom of the 9th in both games of a double header in '89 against the sips..bar none.
He had hit one out in the 9th the night before against Drisendofer but didn't have anyone on base or he would have had the Trifecta.

RAB88 - you missed a great series. I was in the stands and on the tracks. I never made it into the stands for game 1 because I stopped off at the tracks and the keggers going on out there were too great to pass up. However, used my tickets for the rest of the way. There were huge parties all over town for the Sunday night game. Tickets were hard to come by and I had friends that had parties instead. You had to get them earlier in the week - no student tickets were passed out at the game.

I'll add a few...

Trey Moore's 1-0 shutout of Baylor, Friday night,1993

Shawn Schumacher's HR in the 8th inning against BU at Olsen, in 99?

6 run rally against Mary Hardin-Baylor in the bottom of the 7th (7 inning game) to win 8-7 in '93.

'93 Friday game against t.u. Granger clinched the title, and Rob Harris hit a 3 run bomb.
