EDITED TO INCLUDE TRUE MONDAY NUMBERS...SUNDAY NUMBERS ORIGINALLY POSTED BY MISTAKE.

Good week for the Ags and we were rewarded with a handsome jump up the RPI rankings. However, the room for error is still very small and more road wins (I'm looking at you, Rice) are necessary. Here's where we stand after a 3-1 week with a win over PVAMU and a 2-1 record on the road at Vandy.

NOTES:

** Not sure how they did it, but UT-Arlington made a 100 point jump over last Monday's ranking.

** Check out Columbia getting back in the top 100.

** Unfortunately, also check out SFA falling below the #100 mark.

** Georgia (80 to 63 to 44) and Arkansas (115 to 86 to 71) have been rocketing up the rankings over the past few weeks.

** And despite our failures this year (La. Tech, Sacramento State, Fresno x3), the Ags quietly have a 4-3 record vs. top 15 teams. Give us even 2 wins of the 5 horrible non-conference losses we have and the Ags would virtually be making post-season plans already.

Will a 12-7 record over remaining games get them in post season?

How does Fresno still have an rpi that high. They have hardly won a game in a month

FWIW - it looks like Boyd's hasn't been updated this morning. That last updated date and time still shows as yesterday AM.

I believe this one is in Huntsville. Didn't we already get them at home?

We did, but it's not. Somehow we scheduled a pair of games at Olsen with them this year with no trip to Huntsville.

Oh wow, doesn't bother me at all that we're not going to Huntsville. I just assumed it was a home and home series.

never thought I would ask this question...but with Tech sitting at #10...would that be a bus or airplane trip with regard to regional play?

in another words due to travel costs the chances of the NCAA putting the Ags in a Lubbock regional are very, very small when Austin, Houston, and Lafayette are also hosting

another thought with the Ags getting closer to regional range...

the preseason scenario of two all-Texas regionals for one CWS slot...is looking fairly realistic.

figure t.u. and Rice/UH as the two hosts

then the #2 and #3 seeds among Tech, A&M, DBU, Rice/UH, and maybe TCU

and the Southland and SWAC champs filling in as the #4 seeds

These numbers look so much better today than any other Monday this year.

Now, we need to play good baseball and not miracle baseball to make it.

Win Wednesday and two of three this weekend and that sets up a massive RPI game at Rice next Tuesday.

By the way, always look forward to this each Monday. Thanks!

W-I'm not positive but the rule always was you had to bus if you were less than 400 miles. Google maps shows 440 miles from A&M to tech.

By the way, since we are back in the discussion, does anyone have a link to any regional projections?

14-16 should get any SEC team in.

I think .500 or better would certainly do it in baseball or softball.

Get ready for something like this...assuming, of course, the Ags can win some down the stretch:

AUSTIN REGIONAL
1. Texas
2. Texas A&M
3. Someone like Nebraska
4. Sam Houston State

HOUSTON REGIONAL
1. Rice
2. Texas Tech
3. Dallas Baptist
4. Columbia...or some other weak auto-bid team

I don't like to see all the Texas schools funneled into 1 Omaha slot, but pretty good chance that will happen. Unless a potential Lafayette regional pulls away Rice or UH

Wouldn't mind Lafayette pulling us away for something different. Of course, at this point, I'll take anything.

A&M in the Lafayette regional against Deggs' crew...the baseball board might not survive

If we make the post season, we're going to Austin or Houston. Period. We went to the west coast last year because there were no in-state hosts. But since Texas, Rice and/or UH are all in line to host, I can 100% guarantee that if the Ags are in a regional we'll land in one of those places.

fun with the RPI...

3 best series wins for #53 A&M:

#1 Florida
#14 Vanderbilt
#149 Sacramento State

3 best series wins for #6 UH

#57 Memphis
#65 Rutgers
#96 College of Charleston

go figure
Luke The Drifter

On the flip side:

3 worst series losses for #53 Texas A&M:

(1) 0-3 vs. #68 Fresno State

(2) 1-2 vs. #48 Auburn

(3) 1-2 vs. #44 Georgia

(also has a series loss to #23 Alabama)

3 worst series losses for #6 UH:

(1) 1-2 in Astros classic beating #10 Texas Tech, losing to #3 Texas and #34 TCU

(2) 3 losses to #29 Louisville

(3) No other weekend series losses

The difference between UH and A&M doesn't come from who UH has beaten so much as from who they haven't lost to. Houston has 9 losses to these teams:

#3 Texas
#29 Louisville (x3)
#34 TCU
#39 Pepperdine
#57 Memphis
#65 Rutgers
#187 Lamar (OK...that one's bad)

Conversely, A&M has 15 losses to these teams:

#1 Florida
#6 Houston
#14 Vanderbilt
#23 Alabama (x2)
#44 Georgia (x2)
#48 Auburn (x2)
#55 Sam Houston State
#68 Fresno State (x3)
#149 Sacramento State
#210 Louisiana Tech

Plus UH has some decent non-conference wins:

2 over #11 Rice
1 over #53 Texas A&M
1 over #82 UCLA
1 over #91 USC
3 over #96 College of Charleston
3 over #112 Michigan

interesting to see how the committee is going to hand out regional host slots with so many mid-major teams in the top 15.

ULL, UH, Rice, Indiana, and Cal-Poly

Cal-Poly plays in the #6 RPI conference. The rest are in the #8, #9, #10, and #11 conferences.

theoretically those teams should start slipping down the RPI as they player weaker and weaker conference opponents (top 100+) and occasionally lose to one of them. While the ACC, SEC, and Pac-12 teams push towards the top because they are playing top 50 opponents down the stretch

My high RPI team to watch is Stanford. The trees are sitting at an RPI of 27 with a 12-16 record (yeah, you read that right). They only have 3 games remaining against Top 50 RPI opponents (all three against Arizona State). Looking at there remaining opponents, only Arizona State (RPI 37, 19-14), UCLA (RPI 82, 19-15) and Washington State (RPI 108, 16-16) have non-losing records. Tree are having to try and weather the bad RPI storm after loading up with high RPI teams in the early part of the season.
