Getting embarrassed today by UF on national TV but no comments either way. Looks like a train wreck in the pitchers circle. When you have teams like Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, and Georgia that hit the Crap out of the ball, gotta have someone in the circle who can slow them down. Even LSU has won the last two series vs Tennessee and Georgia and scored 27 run today at South Carolina and the coaching is taking some heat over there but I see very little interest on this board. I would love to see the Aggies win the SEC but it seems secondary to most Aggie fans.

You asked so I will answer.

No I really couldn't care less about softball.
I have been a season ticket holder in baseball and football for 25 years.
I have been to 1 Aggie softball game in that time. If they are on tv I will watch for an inning or so.
I hope they do well and they win because their jerseys say "Aggies", but honestly don't care.

I do. My daughter plays select and has always dreamed about playing for A&M. So far, this season has been a train wreck. They did mention on TV that we were starting to fund raise for a new stadium. That's about the best news this year.

Love Aggie Softball. Unfortunately, most familiar with the team were expecting a down year I think because of the loss of Mel, so its not really a surprise.

We should never be this bad. Jo has done a very bad job of recruiting pitchers

I wish they'd let the ladies play baseball. To me, softball is something for fat guys to play with their buddies from the bar.

I can't stand softball because they play on a field smaller than my 10 year old does. The sport needs to have a bigger diamond/outfield. I personally don't like pitcher dominated games in softball. It's soooooo boring.

If I recall correctly, Japan has a women's baseball league.

Like "Aggie" I root for all aggie sports, but don't like team sports that are capable of being dominated by one position, in this case the pitcher (especially when we don't have a dominant one)

You're right. I've never played "real" softball

They cared a lot for that one week that we were in the World Series 6 years ago or whenever it was. Like anywhere else, winning at a high level gets you some attention. We had an influx of people demanding softball get its name on the board and claiming how much better they liked softball than baseball.

Fast forward to the beginning of the following season and we never saw 90% of those posters again.

I like the Aggie softball team because they play for A&M. I usually have a vague knowledge of how they're doing (apparently not this time because I thought they were good this year), and hope they do well. But there's only so much time and money, and I spend the spring on baseball and men's basketball.

I also thought our attendance for softball was pretty good. Is it not?

Oh I was glued to the tube when they went to the World Series..

I don't care what sport it is --- if an A&M team is playing for a championship, I'm all in...

But when it's over, I guess its kind of like when the Team USA plays in the World Cup soccer final... I watch it, and then don't watch another minute of soccer until the next time an American team is playing for the title

there was something special about the Amanda & Megan era (2005-2008). Not just the fact that they won a lot of games, won championships, and played in the WCWS twice. They had charisma, drawing power, etc..,

the program seems to be missing that the past few years

Agree. It was a shameful beatdown on national TV today. I'm hoping for a rainout tomorrow. And, Jo is a good person, but will forever be mediocre as a coach, IMO.

Jo Evans is in her 18th year at TAMU, during which TAMU made the postseason 14 times, including the last 12. In 16 years in the Big 12, TAMU’s conference finish averaged between 4th and 5th, with the run to Oklahoma City in 07-08 the high water mark. In the first year in the SEC, the overall record was good enough for a 9th place finish. Women’s softball, as mentioned, is hugely skewed toward having 1 or more dominating pitchers. For whatever reason, Jo has been unable to recruit these players (Amanda Scarborough her fish year came close), and the bats aren’t nearly enough to compensate, especially in the SEC. Until we start landing some superior pitchers, the TAMU name should attract enough quality players to be competitive, but championships may not be a realistic goal.

A&M's fan base and athletic department doesn't care about men's basketball, they really don't care about softball.
Way too many sports underperforming right now.

I'm a fan of softball. Typically make it to more softball games than baseball games each year. This series has been nothing short of awful.

Better question is, do Aggies care about any sport besides football? I'll be the first to admit that we have a pretty apathetic fan base, dating back at least to when I was at A&M in the 90s.

I don't really care about either unless we're in Omaha. Both baseball and softball are boring at every level above age 10 and when your child is participating.

I came over here because it sounds like we're in meltdown mode, which is almost interesting.

If we scored 14 runs yesterday and kept up with the Gators then I might find that interesting to watch.

When I was walking to my car from the baseball game it looked like the softball complex was full and the softball version of Raggies were audible. From the outside it looks like we have good fan support.

I care that we field good teams in all sports and represent well. I even listened on the radio to their CWS games when I was taking my kids to baseball practices. One beat down doesn't negate all that Evans has done. Now, if I was as invested in softball as I am in baseball then I might get upset that we don't go to the CWS more. However, I won't pretend that I know the dynamics of softball coaching, recruiting, etc to make an educated opinion. If it's like baseball, then maybe we should be asking for more from Evans.

I am a softball convert! Having been involved in youth sports the past 20 years and played baseball, basketball and football growing up when kids played the sport in season I have seen many changes.

Softball has some growing pains for sure as all sports but what I see is how many dads get to do things with their daughters they never would have had the opportunity. The dads pace as much for their daughters as any father did for their boys. The skill set a lot of the girls developed have been nothing short of phenomenal. Then to take it on to the college level to get more training and chance to develop leadership skills is fantastic.

It has been fun watch Emily Albus make major league plays or Brittany Clopton run down some long fly balls and making perfect throws to get runners out or Amber Garza fielding some hot ground balls at third and Taran Tyler making throws deep in the hole at short. Catcher Nicole Morgan and Tyler/Ryan team up on pickoffs is something else. Want to watch a right fielder make a throw on a rope to first to beat out a runner; watch Cassie Tysarck. Want to see a vocal leader on the infield, watch Jenna Stark and her fielding is flat out good. WOW !

If you only looked at the box scores you are missing out on how good these girls really are. Ten (10) games lost by 2 runs or less! A defensive lapse here or there, a bad bounce or a throw a little off extended the inning that cost them. Toss in a timely hit and the game is different Look at the final scores and you can see how competitive against some of the top teams/pitchers in the nation.

Take a look at the girl's bios and you can see they are some of the best in Texas. Does that always translate into championship teams? No, as there are many intangibles to get to the top that not only include close games loses but outside influences we as spectators will never see. Some of these girls are walk-ons and could have played anywhere but wanted to play for Evans and the Aggies.

You don't have to go to the games nor care about "chick ball" but take a look around because one day you may be the parent/grandparent of a girl that wants to be in sports and how hard it will tug on your heartstrings.

Yes, I am disappointed in the loses and feel bad for some of the girls but this team is special in its own way. There is more at play than pure W's and L's.

Some of us definitely care, and I'm one that often leads the charge around here.

I've been really, really busy, however. Texags takes a backseat sometimes.

We're not all that bad. We'll probably be a 2-seed in a regional instead of a #1 as we are so often, but we're not all that bad.

As for pitching, I've ran and posted the numbers so many times explaining softball pitching isn't as dominant as so many have bought into that I'm so beyond trying to convert anyone else, though.

Its a catch-22. Folks won't actually understand the game until they watch, but they won't watch in part because they don't understand the game.

Oh well.

Compared to whom? The nation as a whole? I'd say Aggies care about baseball and softball equal to (if not greater than) almost all large Div I universities? Which is not saying much, but you asked. Getting beat by a team clearly superior to you in any given season is not a good judge of whether softball is important. It just means you got beat. Seems to me we have good fans and support systems. Sometimes you just have the horses.

Pablo, first of all, thank you for taking the time to read my post. Secondly I am not Hyman but thanks for asking.

I am the person who disliked "chick ball" but learned to enjoy the game and seeing the sport evolve by watching 10 yr olds not able to hit the ball out of the infield to crushing monster homeruns.

I am the person who stood next to the Viet Nam vet whose highs and lows ebbed with how his granddaughter and her team did. Her playing extended his enjoyment of the game and his desire is for her to be able to earn a college scholarship.

I am the person who watched a close friend develop life long friends over youth sports only to die before he could see his daughter fully develop her skills.

I am the person who knows of young girls being mentored by college female players in not only the game but life skills.

There is more than X's and O's to me. While I enjoy the softball the same goes for all women sports as I hope they not only win but become good ambassadors.

Now Pablo, are you man enough to apologize?
