Could be wrong, but I believe he was also headed for Tommy John. I think that's what I read somewhere on the Cubs site during spring training.

The only thing I could find until you said Tommy John was that he wasn't invited to spring training and was on the inactive DL. Hope he gets through it.

Barret had shoulder surgery back last September to tighten things up. It went well and his shoulder felt better than ever at spring training. After starting a throwing program, the elbow wasn't responding. His ligament was too stretched out and he had TJ back in mid March. Things went well and he looks at starting over with a fresh start next ST. He was going to miss this year anyway. Barret and Strip are out in AZ both rehabbing with their respective teams. They keep in touch and hang out together at times.

Ruggiano to the DL for the Cubs as well.

That was a nasty looking spill he took right on the edge of the bullpen mound. He went down and immediately grabbed his hammy. Very awkward.
