And what math course is that from bobo?

ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, do me, do me, do me....
A pencil can be modeled as a hexagonal prism (in this case). When a pencil rolls on a rough floor, it will rotate around one of its edge, and then the next edge will hit the floor, and then the pencil will continue rotating with the edge as a new rotation axis. To simplify the problem, assume mass of the pencil is concentrated at its center.
Calculate the minimum value of coefficient of friction between the pencil and the floor so that the pencil doesn't slip when its edge hits the floor! Assume the contact between the pencil and floor only occurs at the pencil's edge.

Give a logical proof that 1+1=3
(it can be done with some outside the box thinking)

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6
"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." The words of Jesus; John 16:33

I like calculus (not referring to the Math 416 - I see that's modern algebra). You said you're going to be a math teacher, right bobo? What area do you like the best?

I really like calculus which is what I'll be teaching, however number theory is what interests me the most and I'll probably introduce mod counting to my seniors just for fun.
12:13p, 5/5/10
I took numerical methods but I'm not sure I know much about number theory. I hated calculus at first but after several years of it, I really actually began to enjoy it and see its application everywhere. It's impossible to do a lot of work without it actually.

You should teach them string theory, bobo
I don't teach pseudoscience.
Even if I do have about 6 books on the subject.

Really though we're staying on topic with the thread. A nerdy problem is what birthed the glorious clown.

When I was still a physics major, they had Lisa Randall (expert on the subject from Harvard) come speak during an astrophysics conference.
Everything she said went completely over my head because it was so out there

It's impossible, and the proofs out there for it always have some math fallacy like dividing by zero.
If you had asked for a proof that 1+1=2n with n being any number, then I can give it to you.
However, 2 odd numbers added together will never make an odd. Say, n,k are any integer (2n+1) + (2k+1) = 2(n+k)+ 2= 2(n+k+1) which is the definition of an even number.

CDub's law of zeroes:
1+1 = 3
(0)(1+1) = 3(0)
0=0

JC....back up, juggy...that's my clown
I think he is probably busy. Dont' ask too many questions or he will be frustrated tonight and we won't get more pics.

I never mentioned math in my question.
You're not thinking outside the box enough ... although in "the real world," 1+1=3 or even 1+1=4 or even more is quite common.

Get a gig at the right school and introduce a special topics class. You can cover number theory, linear algebra, combinatorics, and a bunch of other fun areas that are accessible to students without calculus.

a Ginger Clown!!!

chopperdave,
I was looking at all the pictures because I needed a laugh. I didn't notice the ginger hair the first time through.
