I built Bonfires '87, '88, '89, and '90. I was a Crew Chief for OCA. Had a great time and miss it tons. The best memories I have of my years in Aggieland are from the top of stack! I have two boys ('19 and '22) and I hope they are able to cut, load, stack, and burn! We all need to make sure every Ol Ag knows about Bonfire and attends this year!!!

Guess I should update my info since 07'

04 - stupid fish
05 - FHK Hell Pot
06, 07, 08 - dirty "old" man of FHK woods who still did work on occasion
09 - helped out at first cut & designated Y-sticker for a night
10 - attended first cut & burn
11 - Nothing thus far and that makes me very sad.

I've always enjoyed stack more. You got to see more than just the same 10 people all day, and you got to do different things if you got bored or tired. As long as I still live within a reasonable drive, I intend on building student bonfire every year.

And, to a lesser extent, '07, '09, '10, and '11.

2007 Bonfire. I was a freshman at Texas A&M Galveston that year. Made the drive to College Station just for Bonfire.

'78,'79,'80. Best part, riding to and from the cut at Carlos,Power Plant, east of CS sitting down, backs to the front of the tractor float, no side boards, sitting 6 across with arms locked to keep from falling off, the row in front of you backed up against your knees, etc, the length of the trailer, and having a wade of chewing tobacco (mandatory) and spitting high so the wind would catch it and hit the BQ's in the back of their heads, they had Piss Pots on, pretty funny at the time, they never caught on.

I had always heard of that, but then I thought I was told it was a myth. Irregardless, that's some Ol' Army Good Bull!

agcoop10, yeah, it was the real deal, how we kept from falling off those semi's to and from the cut was amazing, also had wrestling matches, and of course most all outfits had a "company log" with the outfit unit (A-1),etc, on it blazed in with and axe and the whole outfit blanked.. those out to the load trucks. Most fish wore a variety of clothes from fatigues, jeans, with football shoulder pads, piss pots, etc. Would have 'inspection" on the wall prior to loading out before daybreak to get "motivated" by the upperclassmen. We would go to the local army surplus store and buy machetes, canteens, etc. for cut. Most juniors, depending on the battalion or need stood "guard" around the stack prior to it being lighted, wore shined combat boots with fatigues and pots with dates in front of us. We formed a ring about 4 feet apart around the stack, facing out. Everyone was up close, then when the heat from bonfire really caught, everyone would run back away from it. Those were great times.
