Just threw this together on a whim and hopefully they turn out great! Dad forgot to pick up baked beans so I opted to run to the store and make this instead. Will let y'all know how they turn out!

Wow. I just noticed that thread was 5 years ago and the wife who thought it was a little spicy was Teacher Wife right before she was diagnosed.

Do you drain the beans before putting them in or just pour the whole can in?

I'm giving this a shot right now. Been simmering for about 20 minutes now. Smells epic. About to put cornbread in the oven.

Made this recipe three days ago. Finishing off the rest for dinner tonight. Good stuff on a cold Wisconsin winter night!

I bet it is hard to find the clamato up there. The wife is from WI, and those people are just flat out different. Good people though.

This is epic! I minced a few cloves of garlic and substituted one cup off clamato with a cup of shiner bock. Delish.

I appreciate the positive thoughts. I am recently engaged to a wonderful widow. Oh, and she loves these beans.

Thanks for bringing back to the top. Now I know what's for lunch this week.
Same. Just picked up my ingredients in the weekly grocery trip. This will be my second time making it, so we'll see if I can't do a better job this time.

I was thinking about fixing this for Memorial weekend but never made it to a grocery store big enough to have all the ingredients.

Crazy, I made this last night without the cilantro, and used jalepenos without the seeds. Delicious

I've grown more fond of letting the seranos sautee with the bacon and onion, as well as leaving some of the bean "juice" remaining with one can of the beans.

I make my pintos fresh, but use the basics of this recipe to finish the bean cooking process. Good stuff!

Fido, if you're paying attention to this thread still, I'm cooking your recipe right now for a company bbq we're throwing this afternoon. 5lbs of beans. It looked go so I'm running with it. First time. Better be good or I'm going to be embarrassed in front of 50 or so people!

Make sure you cook the bacon to almost crispy..
Make sure you have extra clamato to add if it doesn't have the right tang to it.
Best damn quick beans I've ever made.

Last 3 comps I have been in I placed 3 out of 66 and 2 out of 36 and 2 out of 69.
Dry pintos soak overnight
fresh japs, tomatos and onions and minced garlic after beans have boiled and foam taken off.
Steep for a bit.
Then cubed salt pork and boil softly then steep.
When starting to soften Bolners Fiesta Pinto bean seasoning softly boil then steep.
When finishing some sea salt to taste soft boil the shut off and cover.
That is the way I cook you will have to adjust ingredients to fit your taste like I have. Very simple and makes a nice bean gravy while keeping the beans away from getting mushy.
