Not sure if there's a better place to ask this but putting here because Outdoor board knows stuff. Our river houses lawn is under a caterpillar invasion currently, I've never seen this before at this property.

Wanted to see if anyone could ID them and tell me if they are poisonous. Not too worried about them myself, but if there's any hazard I don't want the dog getting stung.

Fuzzy Wolly bears, harmless.

Probably salt marsh moth caterpillars. They are everywhere right now.

An invasion of poisonous caterpillars would be apocalypse level stuff. Thanks for giving my mind something else weird to scare me with

I always thought those were asps and bad to touch? We have SO MANY at our house this year. We back up to cypress creek.

Not just those, but a ton of other caterpillars I've never seen as well. Eating all of our plant leaves. This year seems really bad for some reason.

So yet another thing my parents claimed in childhood was a lie?? I was always told the black fuzzy ones were asps and they'd hurt like hell if you touched them.

And here I've been so paranoid my dogs are going to take an interest in one of the dozens I've seen crawling around our yard the last few weeks.

Poisonous, venomous, it's all the same.

Good to know - I too assumed those things stung

And they have absolutely broke out by the dozens at my farm. I probably killed 1000 of them last week mowing around the house.
