Age - 44
Height - 5'9"
Weight - 218 (up over 6 lbs this week according to my Garmin scale, something seems off but oh well)
Goal - sub 200

Just got a Tonal machine a couple weeks ago and really enjoying the programs and workouts. Sold off all my free weights and stuff, while enjoyed that I hate the constant swapping of weights and my own self created programs were getting stale.

Also got fitted for some proper running shoes and holy crap I never realized how much more comfortable I could be while running. I don't like to run super long distances (1-3 miles) but it still helps.

Wife's decided to go dry for 2024, I probably won't do that fully but last time she did I cut considerably back and that helped.

I started 2023 at 325lbs…it's time to finish strong by building strength and endurance.

I don't really NEED to lose anymore weight, but I'd like to get down to 180lbs from my current 195 so I can improve on my running times.

My fitness goals for 2024 are:

- to stay healthy while continuing my marathon training
- Run a sub 1:30 half (1:43 is where I'm currently at although left a lot on the table)
- Run a sub 20 minute 5k (21:30 is my current PR)
- Run a full marathon
- Staying consistent with strength training, which has been harder as I have increased my mileage

My overarching goal is to one day qualify for the Boston Marathon, although that will take years to get to that point, if ever.

Nice, I'll be out running the Austin Half, as well. My goal is sub 1:40. Been doing a ton of long hilly runs to prepare.

Yes, just under 7 weeks away or 48 days away. Training has been going well, and I started training in mid-October. This will be my 10th half marathon, and I have run one full marathon (2022 Austin Marathon in 3:55:21).

Black Canyons 100k next month. Looking to take 2-3 hours off my 2023 time. I didn't get much training in last year due to injury.

#16 on the waiting list for Angeles Crest 100. Should get in. This will just be a "get across the finish line race."

In for Barkley Fall Classic, hoping to get a finish this year.

Other than those races, would like to drop a few pounds.

Now you've peaked my curiosity. What are you targeting as "respectable"? :-)

Did my first Hyrox (doubles) last year, may be doing doubles in Houston as well. If it's your first, my suggestion is practice heavy on the push. It blew me up and I still had six events to go. Not ideal.

Did I miss something? Did you give it a go previously? As in THE Barkley?

If so, mad respect for even stepping on that start line.

Different race. Same venue, also put on by Laz, many of the same trails/climbs/etc. Fall Classic is a 50k-ish. It's usually closer to 40 miles with 12,000+ ft of climbing, but no GPS is allowed, so never really know. People map it to estimate. It's hard AF. Definitely adds a whole new perspective to what the runners at Barkley Marathon go through.

No problem. My coach is a Hyrox world champ in her age bracket. She does specific training programming for race prep in addition to the other stuff I do. Hard to get better training than that. It's almost merciless sometimes.

I did a simulated race once and came in around 1.5 hours. I am a slow runner unfortunately.

Goal: lean out the first 4 months of the year. I spent the last part of 2023 bulking up.

For those of you who have cut after a bulk phase what did you find successful to lean out? Im guessing keeping protein intake up and limits carbs with staying at a calorie deficit?

5k was my number a few years ago, don't remember if I hit it or not. Breakdown was 100 swim / 1400 run / 3500 bike.

Not an easy goal but definitely doable. Only 100ish miles a week. :-)

Goal: For the first time in a while its maintenance. I lost 76 lbs in total last year, and am at a healthy body fat % and weight for me. 3-5 days a week working out and hopefully I can get back a little strength and muscle size from my peek years. Just have to keep at it and not end up with a case of fuggarounditis.

Having done this multiple times now, the only real keys are:
- Caloric deficit
- Adequate protein
- Some form of resistance training

Carbs and fats really don't matter so long as your calories are relatively within budget, and your protein is consistent

Goal: Get under 200 pounds and stay there. Turn fitness/health into a lifestyle and not a cyclical yo-yo style affair. I put on a lot of "new dad" weight after having my 1st in June. Prior to her arrival I was doing really well on Mind Pump programs. I am getting back into it, but my goal isn't to hit a desired weight and stop. My goal is to adopt a healthy lifestyle and stick with it for good.
