That is freaking awesome. I'm interested to see what else you have in the personal effects.

You really need to contact the University and negotiate some deal with them for preservation and display. These are the types of items that belong in Cushing.

I'd also highly recommend you looking at getting these things insured. My grandfather has a sash from his great (x whatever) grandfather that fought along side of George Washington in the revolution - full documentation and provenance as well. The Daughters of the American Revolution helped in getting it appraised for insurance purposes, as well as how to display it without damaging or degrading the item over time.

Beyond awesome - I hope this thread can be tacked so we can keep up.

One minor detail...WWI ended in 1918. If the writing there is the original composition, history may need to be revised slightly about when the war hymn was written. Makes more sense that it would've been done during post-war guard duty anyway.

Nice find.

We found my grandpa's (Lloyd Fulbright class of '47) letters from WWII talking about how all of them would hitchhike from Waco to BCS all the time. He wrote about the journeys. We also found some war letters.

They were all displayed at his muster set.

This is the coolest thing I've ever seen on the internet. Seriously. I unapologetic-ally make the photo my FB banner.

Did OP not really know that was still in the family?
