Holy cow......what an incredible find. Yes you definitely have some Cushing-worthy material there. Cool to be descended from such Aggie legend. Really awesome stuff.

Original War Hymn In Pinky Wilson's own hand writing?
I'll start the bidding at $10,000 and I am not kidding.

This was edited - apparently you were kidding when you said you'd start the bidding at $100,000 "and I am not kidding!"

Not to be a downer, but 8/22/1919 was not during WWI.
Also, no American soldier saw the Rhine until after the war.

Definitely the coolest story I've read in a long time. That is awesome to come from such a bloodline.

Wow! I'd love to just have some cool family history in general. I can't imagine having that much significant Aggie family history with the relics to go along with it!

water turkey,
yes that is a statue of him, but it is in Bertram. The road that his statue sits is the road that carries him to his old ranch in Joppa. My mom & dad both grew up in the Joppa Community.
That statue had originally to be located in the state cemetary but it was too tall, so Bill Wicox (the man who commissioned the 2 statues) gave it to the town of Bertram.

Aggie Lit,
you are correct. I did more research & found that my grandfather left the war late in 1918, so the date the letter was written was not the original copy of the Aggie War Hymn. I believe that the Aggie War Hymn was not adopted as the fight song for A&M until 1920.
This is NOT the original copy of the War Hymn, just an early version of it.

Wow! That needs to be in an Aggie museum at the New Kyle Field!
