WHA: I didn't find any photos on Cushing, but I did find this which is supposedly the branding party:

Your grandfather's name isn't listed there however.

(And here's a much bigger picture without the caption: http://repository.tamu.edu/bitstream/handle/1969.1/111529/3444308933_e84fca6a63_b.jpg )

Looks like these three are all the pictures Cushing has of the branding party.

Suddenly the note in the letter found in Joe Routt's estate makes sense:

"When you see the sawed off horn of bevo reappear, you will know the national championship is nigh, even at the doors"

Pinky has to be one of the greatest Ags of all time.

He kept a written record of all of the games, wrote the war hymn, and took a horn from the original bevo...

of course Pinky would have a pet raccoon.

- I don't know if I'll be going to Heaven or Hell, but I'll be going from Texas.
- Never ask a man if he's from Texas. If he is, he'll tell you. If he's not, there's no need in embarrassing him.

update:
was able to speak with Mr Wilcox and he verified the story of the horn. Pinky did attend the original BEVO BBQ (who BBQ's their Mascot anyway?....strange story) and told him the story of having the horn.
As I mentioned earlier, my grandfather and Mr Wilcox became close friends late in my grandfather's life and Pinky wanted to pass the story of how the War Hymn came to be written before he died. Mr Wilcox took diligent notes and told me that he still has them today.
The book that I mentioned in an earlier post is actually the manuscript. The book has yet to be published and may never be, but as a history lover, Aggie & grandson of Pinky,it is my goal to see that his story can be retold and read by all who yearn to know the facts about how my grandfather came to write the Aggie War Hymn.

During my discussion with Mr Wilcox, he mentioned that he has several items that my Grandfather gave him pertaining to WW1, A&M and the Masons (they were both Grand Masons) Hope to get more details on them soon. When I do, I will do my best to get pics of them and pass them along to everyone.

@AggielandTwitter announced that they were auctioning off this pennant to registered users and twitter followers when the Ags go 11-1 or 10-2 during the regular season, or reach 11 wins after a bowl game: http://i1333.photobucket.com/albums/w624/Ags2Ags/Pennant2_zps5da97b7f.jpg
