war hymn aggie, are you related to the Mikeska family (Mikeska BBQ)? I know one of them and he says that he is related to Pinky.

Early on in this discussion, War Hymn, you asked about "Japanese Pesos." Don't know if that was answered or not, but those come from the Philippines. When the Japanese occupied the islands in the early part of WWII, they took the existing Philippine currency, the peso (a legacy of Spanish control) and made new ones.

The writing on them is in English because then (and now) most Filipinos speak English as their primary language. A lot of Americans in WWII who served over there scooped up those bills, which became worthless after we took the islands back from the Japs in 1945. I have some of these myself, and they should say something like "Japanese Government" on the top.

Isaac Newton Hood ring a bell?

Trying to connect you two.

He has the entire family tree. Supposedly Isaac Newton Hood was his maternal great grandfather and Pinky's maternal grandfather.

Fish Ag,
I AM related to the Hood family. My great grandmother was a Hood, if I recall correctly.

I found an original photo of Isaac. I can send you a pic if you would like.

Interesting read on a documentary written by Isaac's brother Willis.

quote:
Letter from Assoc of Former Students from 1923. Thought it was interesting because there was no Aggie Muster yet on this date. Also interesting because the War Hymn was also called "Good Bye to Texas University" by many.

and the association was located in Waco, TX.

War Hymn, I got your voice mail about 3 weeks after you called me! Thanks Verizon. Sent you a text message during the Miss St. game and will follow up with the phone call. Thanks for doing Muster for our A&M club! We can work out the accomodations and your schedule when I get in touch with you.
