Texas A&M adds former East Carolina TE Shane Calhoun via transfer portal

By Jason Howell
April 22, 2024

Since Mike Elko arrived in College Station, Texas A&M has made a habit of dipping into the transfer portal, and today the Aggies secured the talents of another key addition as tight end Shane Calhoun announced his plans to finish his college career in College Station.

The 6-foot-3, 240-pound standout arrives by way of East Carolina. Over the course of his four-year career as a Pirate, he recorded 63 receptions for 594 yards and six touchdowns while ending his career with 33 starts in 40 games.

In 2023, he posted 15 receptions for 119 yards and two touchdowns in seven games. He arrives at Texas A&M as a grad transfer with one year of eligibility.

Calhoun originally chose East Carolina as a three-star tight end in the 2020 recruiting class out of St. Augustine (FL) Creekside.

He is the Aggies' fourth commitment since the spring transfer portal window opened in April.

Stay tuned, we’ll have more soon for our TexAgs Premium subscribers.

We already have like 10 tight ends

And based on our injury record, we'll need them all.

Zero downside. One year of eligibility and adds depth.

Hopefully this has nothing to do with Donovan Green's recovery. Makes me think one of the current TE's will be on the move.

Another TE? Do he play linebacker or O line?

I can only imagine that coach Elko knows why we need another TE.
Must assume he knows what our needs are.
Got to believe we will lose someone(s) to the TP.

i have not seen this kids tape but based on his size alone is it possible he could play a bit of a hybrid role? tight end/ h back out of the backfield type. i have no idea but that was first thing that came to
mind.

Need a kicker that hits above 75%.

Bama just got the Lou Groza winner. We're gonna lose some games to poor kicking.

Why are you posting about a kicker on multiple threads that don't even have anything to do about kickers?

Because I'll never forget the 2012 season what could've been with a good kicker. I foresee similarities this season and trying to spread awareness.

Maybe because Moczulski is transferring. Not good. I would much rather have him than Bond.
