So Colleyville finally showed up and said:

I won't rehash again what I have already said on another thread, but since there appear to be eleventy billion interested viewers I thought I should at least comment that I have already discussed on another thread exactly what I feel I do and do not need to apologize for. My post contain more information than the post a few up from mine on this page. I am not going to repost everything as I comment on both threads so I will keep my replies to the thread that specifically felt the need to call another aggie out. If anyone would like to view it: http://www.texags.com/main/forum.reply.asp?topic_id=667953&page=1&forum_id=5

Sort of taking the "gee guys" approach, with hat in hand, but not about to apologize. Weak.

Serious question to get this thread somewhat back on topic - maybe I'm missing something very obvious, but I don't understand the logic in giving a player money or benefits AFTER he's committed to your school. I mean, once you've got him, do you think he's going to transfer and lose a year of eligibility just because you don't keep the checks coming?

Paying a kid or giving his mom a car while he is still in high school trying to decide where to go to college is understandable (not right, but I follow the logic). But keeping it going AFTER he he's on the team? Why? You've got him already.

Hopefully this doesn't get lost.

There are lots of different reasons, but most likely it is to strengthen your recruiting pipeline. There is no doubt that OU didn't just start doing this for Bomar. They have probably been doing this for some time and it just lubes the recruiting pipeline. Bomar probably knew going into OU that he would be "taken care of" by donors. This would have just helped recruit him.

On his recruiting trips, he may have heard from current players how they were taken care of as well. You pay current players to keep them happy and to pass the word down.

The last reason is keeping a player paid can keep a player happy. This will probably keep a player's mouth shut about other things going on.

Just speculating here, but there could be a number of reasons.

It really does seem like there would be a better way than paying him with a check that goes through numerous hands of people that don't support paying him. Slick move.

I realize cash is just as guilty looking at a bank, but there has to be a better way. Glad they thought that one out
