No matters what happens the rest of the day this has been a fantastic start for Tiger.
It's great to see him playing well after so much time off.

bad chunk on a chip that led to a bogey 6. great up and down after the mistake though.

things are starting to get a little shaky... hits it left into sand on 11 drive. 2nd shot goes across fairway in more sand and into a scrub bush, takes unplayable.

18 holes is such a long time.... that's a big part of what makes golf so interesting to watch and such a challenge to play. Even your lowly hacker goes through swings of good and bad at least once or twice a round. And the pros have to do it for four days in a row.
I think he pulls it together and finishes strong.

-4 on first 8 then +3 on the rest. All things considered, he really needs to be happy with how he's played.

Yeah, +4 in his final three holes. Tough way to end it, especially after looking so promising to start.

-4 on first 8
+5 on last 10
Double bogies on 2 of the last 3 holes.
Finishes with a 73 for 17th place out of 18.
Had to get back to work so didn't see any post round interview. Wonder if he is happy with that or not?

@gctigertracker makes it sound like he's staying fairly upbeat about it. Trying to stay positive.

He played well overall. What got him in trouble were some slight misses off the tee with the driver. Has the tendency now just to pull it a little but enough to miss the fairway. Overall though he looked good just a little rusty when he was trying to get up and down from some spots

As they said on the broadcast - if you're consistently missing to only one side that will be no problem to fix.
It was great to see him get off to the hot start and get a round in the books with no meltdowns. He wobbled but didn't fall apart.

I think it is great that one of the greatest players in history is not immune to starting a round off well, exceeding expectations (his and everybody's) and then one chunky chip shot on 9 and essentially the wheels fell off. What a great game as we can all relate.
I would disagree with the not falling apart bit - he played the last 10 holes in +5. Sorry, that's falling apart...doubling two of his last three is a complete meltdown by tour pro standards. He had four 6s on his card. The only reason he finished +1 and not worse is because he ran out of holes.

Did you watch his whole round? There was a lot more to his problems than just slight misses with the driver. For example, he hit two iron shots, one was out of sand, that almost looked like shanks, they launched so far off line to the right. On the one out of the sand, he had to take an unplayable.

I agree but I was saying falling apart according to his most recent tournament standards. He kept it together compared to that. He didn't skull any chips or anything crazy.

Yeah I watched the whole round. What mainly got him in trouble was the left misses. Yes he had a couple bad chips and swings, but his main problem was not putting in the fairway off the tee. Overall it was a decent round considering the guy hasn't played in 15 months. A few bad swings are to be expected but what got him in the most trouble was the left misses off the tee
12:05p, 12/2/16
he's got a good round going now. Almost aced 12....easy birdie from less than a foot
12:05p, 12/2/16
Tiger four under on the round, puts it within a foot for a almost hole in one, about to go five under four round. -4 for tournament
12:41p, 12/2/16
7 under gets a bad break with his drive hitting on the edge of the waste area and shooting further in.
12:50p, 12/2/16
WOW...that was vintage Tiger par. When he dominated he obviously made a ton of birdies, but it was his countless par saving putts that made a huge difference.
