My son and I have tickets for the upcoming Colonial golf tournament (Charles Schwab Challenge). While we're there, we are wanting to play a round of golf at one of the Ft. Worth or surrounding area public golf courses. Any recommendations? Thanks!

You talking about Bear Creek? Or Riverside down towards Arlington?
If looking more outside of Ft Worth, Grapevine Golf course is a good course. Also, Sky Creek Ranch up in Keller.

Fun course from what I recall. Been a long time since I've been down there.

Last time I played Rockwood, it was on a Sunday with a 1:00 tee time. It was during a Cowboy game with an expected high of 97 degrees. Started at 1:00 and walked off 18 at 6:20. I have not been back since. Hawks Creek is the least expensive option with a weekday tee time of $60 which includes a cart. Texas Rangers and Waterchase are great options but more expensive. Colonial has been closed since the tournament last year. The Gil Hanse restoration project looks amazing with 28 million dollar price tag. The 1st rounds on the course will be during this year's tournament. It looks amazing.

Back had some significant flooding damage several years ago. Really weird now.

I'll toss in Lake Arlington. Fun. No bunkers. Generally pretty quick. I play there a bunch.

Thanks for the insight. Like I said it has been forever since I was down there. Good friend played tour 18 a couple of months ago and said it looks like they don't have a greens keeper with how bad it is now.

That's where my granddad taught me to play. Benbrook driving range, Pecan Valley, and occasionally Zeebo's. Good memories.

Great memories. My grandpa played every Monday at his home course in Oklahoma and that's where I played my last round with him. Still have the scorecard. Sounds like we are from the same neck of the woods.

A little further out than those listed but Tangleridge is one of, if not the best in municipal courses around here. Tierra Verde is great, too. Whitestone is underrated as a course, but plays really slow. Took over 5 hours last Friday.
