I need to turn off the water to the house for 5 days in June. Does doing this require me to do anything else inside (thinking specifically about the water heater, but want to know everything)?
The water heater is electric, if that matters.

I usually turn off the breaker to the WH.
Turn off ice maker.
Turn off sprinkler system.
Anything else that may try to use water automatically.

Technically, the valve at the water meter belongs to the water supplier. You should use the house valve which is part of your plumbing.
