Anyone with recent deck projects?

Looking to build a 12x25 deck attached to the house & pergola for half.

First contractor recommended a "low-end composite." He hinted at $15k minimum to complete, but is going to put together a formal quote / bid.

Getting a second bid next week. Curious what others are experiencing with recent builds.

I think that sounds a little high, but I've never run the math on composite. I know it's significantly more than PT. I'm guessing but I would say that's a $10k job. Materials being about half (also a guess).

Does that include the pergola? And is the pergola the composite or cedar?

Great Q - he did mention Cedar for the pergola.

this was a quote from 2018, using Azek decking (PVC materials)...Azek is now Timbertech. Its lighter and less heat absorbent and the only maintenance is washing off the pollen dust every April. It has held up well (covered by ceiling/roof)

FWIW, we did not go with this vendor, or this one:

The doesn't sound high to me at all.

Yeah, to be honest, I think $15k seems a little low. I would have guessed closer to $25k, which is stupid, but everything is stupid expensive nowadays.

had a 12x24 deck only done over a year ago with timbertech and that was right at 8k. concrete piers, etc.

Mind adding what type of railing and if you added a covering?

I just got 3 bids on 20x8 perfect rectangle <2' off ground, using top level trex (transcend lineage).

All were $65-$70/sf.

I decided on DIY to get it down to $20/sf.

FYI Trex lineage from the big box is $150 for 20'. That ain't cheap.

The lower end of Trex is $60 for a 20'.

Just got a second quote, $18k for the deck and paving a single car pad. $12k separate for the entire deck petgola. Haven't gotten the email yet with anything detailed.
