I have always just drank Grey Goose and it's for always mixing drinks so it may not matter what brand but what is the best brand of vodka for that? I was assuming either Grey goose or Absolut? I've never tried Absolut. Is it good? Thoughts on the difference between those 2 and if there are any other top shelf vodka brands that are great?

Big fan of Ciroc, it's made with grapes versus grains like virtually all others. To me has a better taste than any of the others, on the rocks or mixed into a drink. Not a fan of Absolute at all, but I also would not consider it a "good vodka"

I would put Grey Goose and Ketel One in the same class, and both are nice vodkas to drink. Would also add, if your 100% mixing it, then there probably isn't a need to go any better than Grey Goose, but if you're gonna, try Ciroc.

Does it come in a glass bottle? If so, then it's good vodka.

I've always enjoyed Russian Standard.

Not many nuances between mid-tier and high end vodka but a huge difference between cheap and mid-tier. I like anything from Bulvedere, Ketel One ,Stoli,etc...if local I prefer Dripping Springs over Tito's...they make a decent gun as well.

If you are mixing it and not using it for a vodka martini, you should not be using much of the above... you are throwing $ down the drain.

I used to say Tito's, but now that I know a portion of the proceeds is going to t.u. I won't buy it anymore.

Absolut, Ketel One, Wheatley will all run you about $30 for 1.75. My preference is Ketel One.

I'd tell you to stay away from Dripping Springs but your mileage may vary...

Grain or potato?

Grain. But again, if you are mixing it with sweet or strongly flavored mixers, it won't matter in the least... you are just adding it for alcohol.

I buy Wheatley now (instead of Titos).
I didn't think Ketel One was similar priced...for me KO is a superior vodka straight, but rarely drink it that way. Prefer Gin for a martini.

Mixed it's fine but I pay a tiny bit more for something "decent"

Banner, if you're in the Austin area. I've seen it at Total Wine in Dallas, too.

Dash Vodka is outstanding. Also everything in house fermentation through distillation and bottling, Dash is produced from start to finish in Brookshire TX distillery.

Don't spend a lot of money on something that is meant to be tasteless

Chopin. The rest are mostly junk.

Edit: Belvedere if it must be grain.

I don't use much vodka (only really use it for bloody marys), but I typically use Monopolowa. It's cheap and good.

Going to have to agree with Chopin and Ciroc. Distinctly different flavors than regular overly distilled grain vodka. Also, if you can find Single Silo vodka out of Washington state, you may be amazed.

The expensive one in the cool looking bottle over the less expensive one in the less cool bottle that's made at the same distillery.

Tower is Total Wine's label made by Western Sons in Pilot Point, TX. It is good for mixing.

For a martini its hard to beat Stoli Elit. It is pricey so it isn't for mixing.

I like Chopin, as well, but a guy at Specs introduced me to a brand called Vesica and it's surprisingly close in flavor.

Military Special because it's vodka and tastes the same as the expensive ones

For a regular vodka, I really like Khortytsa from Ukraine.

I also enjoy Zubrowka bison grass vodka from Poland. It is excellent mixed with apple juice.

Too many memories of late night at the Class Six. I've never had a worse hangover in my life than I had from anything "Military Special."

Meh.... I'm convinced vodka is more of a purity and hangover thing than anything else. There just isn't that much, if any, flavor difference between plain vodkas. Pick whichever one you have experience with and gives you the lightest after effects and stick to it. I think most vodkas are an exercise that shows how excellent marketing to build profits can really work versus any real value difference in run of the mill brands of a product.
