LaQuvionte Gonzalez announces intent to transfer

The Sleep Station Junior receiver Laquivionte Gonzalez, who came to Texas A&M with great expectations that were never realized, announced via Twitter on Monday that he was transferring:

He did not reveal to what programs he was considering.

Heralded for speed and quickness, the 5-10, 165-pound Gonzalez was an Under Armour All-American and four-star rated prospect when he signed with Texas A&M in 2013 out of Cedar Hill High School.

He started one game his freshman season and accumulated 240 receiving yards on 21 catches. As a sophomore he had five catches for 77 yards.

Gonzalez struggled to earn playing time at perhaps A&M’s deepest position.

With junior Josh Reynolds coming off a record-setting year, sophomores Speedy Noil and Ricky Seals-Jones anticipating breakout seasons this year and freshman Christian Kirk making an excellent impression this spring, Gonzalez didn’t figure to get significantly more playing time.

Gonzalez’ exit leaves Seals-Jones and junior Jeremy Tabuyo as the only remaining members of what was thought to be a stellar group of six receivers in the 2013 recruiting class.

Sebastian LaRue, Ja'Quay Williams and Kyrion Parker, who were part of that class, have previously transferred.

In all seriousness, there really wasn't a spot left for him. Speedy Noil took away his chances of being a starter, and he barely saw the field last year. Christian Kirk's arrival ended any chance of him getting significant playing time. Gonzalez was quick, but he is undersized compared to the rest of our receivers.

Good luck to him wherever he ends up!

Thought he was a decent player. Good luck to him. Probably the best decision if he wants serious playing time. Things just got real competitive at his position. To bad he's not linebackers.

I'm not as good as the next guy, so I'm gonna take my ball and leave.

The P5 conferences need to come up with an agreement that you cannot transfer to another P5 school unless you: A) Haven't played a down, or B) You have graduated. If A, you should still lose a year of eligibility.

TCR, why? I think there are plenty of examples where we're glad to see someone free up a spot. Quiv being gone isn't going to hurt us this year unless we have an obscene number of injuries.

I think when a kid makes a commitment to a school, it needs to be deep and binding. I think sometimes kids cut and run if things don't go exactly their way, and working through the challenge of being buried on the depth chart will make them stronger and more competitive.

I don't like the trend of more and more kids transferring because there is a better player suddenly.

I was excited during your recruitment to see you end up at Aggieland. I hope your next step is a good one for you.

Got to live quiv, gonna be really good somewhere else. We just got insane athletes at his position. Think this is the best move for him. Good luck Quiv, and you'll always b a great ag

The kid stayed for two years and wants to play college ball before he loses his eligibility...and you are assailing his integrity? You have issues. I don't blame him at all. Best of luck finding a fit, Quiv.

I'm sorry to see Pop Quiz go. I think he would have lit it up for us this year. As much potential as RSJ has, he comes with drama and hands of stone. Pop Quiz was a game changer. I will miss him.
