Texas A&M adds former UTEP WR Tyrin Smith via transfer portal

January 22, 2023

Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies continue to dig into the portal, and today, good news has arrived as wide receiver Tyrin Smith announced his transfer from UTEP to Texas A&M.

The 5-foot-7, 170-pound standout has been one of the Miner’s top receivers since arriving in El Paso out of Cisco College. In 2022, he led the Miners with 71 receptions for 1,039 yards and seven touchdowns. In his debut season with the Miners in 2021, he was third on the team with 33 receptions for 570 yards and four touchdowns.

He played high school ball at San Antonio-area power Cibolo Steele, and he began his college career at Cisco College, where he played in seven games and recorded 13 receptions for 267 yards and two touchdowns.

Smith entered the transfer portal on Jan. 13 and quickly found his new home in College Station. He is the Aggies' third transfer portal addition to the 2023 class, joining cornerbacks Tony Grimes and Sam McCall. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

We’ll have more soon for our TexAgs Premium subscribers.

Feels a little like an Ainias Smith replacement? Hope not. But glad to have him, looks like a productive player.

I don't know what you are talking about, first time I've posted that because we have a pretty big hole at that position.

And back to fish camp for you, Aggies don't boo.

It's not 1960. Aggies boo now. When you have rap music for an entrance at a football game, you kinda change your philosophy. Literally every thread in the Zoo, for the past several months, has this exact same response. Nice attempt though, paw paw.
