A Houston native is headed back to the Lone Star State as former UAB cornerback BJ Mayes has committed to Texas A&M out of the transfer portal.

He’s the 15th transfer addition for Mike Elko & Co. this offseason.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound cover man started his collegiate career at Incarnate Word in San Antonio. After two solid years with the Cardinals, he transferred to the Blazers in early 2023. Now, he’s coming to Aggieland to finish his career.

Overall, Mayes has appeared in 32 games in his career. He’s totaled 94 tackles, four tackles-for-loss, three interceptions and 26 passes defended.

In high school, Mayes played for coach Stephen Dixon at Houston Heights.
