I have a Canon Rebel XSi that has served me well since about 2010. I've taken this thing on 3 trips to Disney and other family vacations, various family events from holidays to funerals, and am now preparing for our big family trip this summer to Colorado. The memory card that I've been using for several years is a 32GB card. I have several others in smaller sizes. I thought, get a bigger card. So I grabbed a Lexar 256GB card.

Upon receipt, I promptly put it in the Canon and got a message stating that the card was not formatted, and to format it with this camera. I expected that, selected the Format option, and got a message stating card could not be formatted, and to choose another card.

Am I out of luck here? Perhaps this older Canon can't work with a size of memory card that I don't recall being prevalent when I bought it.

A quick Google search turned this up:

XSi uses SDHC format, which has a maximum size of 32GB
Seems that it only supports FAT32 formatting which would max out at 32GB.

Thanks. I was beginning to suspect something like this.
