I wonder why they didn't think of all the difficulties of that location. I will be thrilled if something ever happens out of there.

I am not convinced SpaceX will go under before they make it to Mars.RGV AG said:

Good friend works for DHS, he says 2022 is the target date. He has been to the site multiple times and meets with SpaceX folks to help them manage intellectual property risk associated with the technology at play in a space program, among other items.

Bump. Any new updates on the first launch?
Also want to move south Texas up. He had been 14 days since anyone posted.
This has got to be the most dead board in the entire Texas regional forums

They have been testing most days. I would expect a test launch in a month or two. Probably not very high at all.

The first static fire test of the Raptor engine was completed last night. Pretty impressive to imagine 32 of these things launching a rocket to Mars someday.

Looks like some hop testing coming up soon.
Andy by hop test, we mean 50,000 AGL? I think so!

Yesterdays 150m "Hop" test aborted due to ignition failure.
Trying again today around 5pm!
Wish I had a boat out there!

You guys keeping up with the homeowners situation at Boca Chica Village? SpaceX wants to buy their properties for 3X appraised value. Homeowners had two weeks to accept the offer. No negotiations allowed. Based on newspaper story, that offer isn't going anywhere with the homeowners. Of course the "appraised value" is one of the big issues. Wonder if they will try eminent domain at some point. Oh, SpaceX was also throwing in lifetime VIP seating for future launches.
Edited to add: just happened to come across this story after my first post.

I have been. It is real, real interesting to say the least. On a personal level I do not have a lot of faith in long term space stuff really being viable. But what do I know. I also don't know what kind of giveaways and such the state and county did for that deal.
It could be like the BS Textile mill that Edinburg and the state set up several years ago that has basically reached about 15% of what was advertised and they were/are in arrears to the city on several things.
That was/is a nice portion of beach that many felt had some truly impressive development potential long term as the RGV grew. But doubt that ever happens in the next 20 years or so. Hopefully all will be well and SpaceX will make Browntown Space City south.

Yeah I've been following it. I feel bad for the residents as they certainly don't have the means to find another piece of property like that even for 3x the appraised value.
It's been amazing to watch the progress of the SpaceX site from piles of dirt 18 months ago to their current spaceship they built outside in the last 2 months. That sucker is HUGE.
You can plainly see it from the bridge now.
