I love throwing behind a batter because it is so quintessentially baseball. It's all about sending a message, even more so that an actually plunking the guy, because you can pretend that you just lost control on those. The way the pitcher and the batter stare each other down afterwards, and the benches clear; it's magic.

I wish it wasn't penalized as heavily as it currently is, there's no chance of hurting anyone, and the pitcher is sacrificing a ball to tell the other team "hey knock it off".

Most people in baseball say it's the most dangerous place to throw it because a guy will instinctively step back if it comes near his head.

Throwing behind a player always seemed like the pitcher not having enough control to throw at a player to me. I always think they don't have the control or balls to actually plunk someone.
