He'll be a junior next season but getting him for two years is nice.

Just watched his highlights...I like it.
Maybe similar to Henry Coleman as a good rebounding big who doesn't shoot 3s.
But he's longer, seems to have long arms, looks like an actual shot blocker.
Very strong dude, carves out space.
Has a little post up game with good drop step.
Good lob catcher/finisher off pick and rolls.
Averaged 6 rebounds in only 23 minutes per game which definitely fits this team.
This gives us 4 guys with size who can play.
Quality addition.

Those highlights remind me a bit of how Robert Williams in college. Not to say he will be as successful as Rob, but just the body style and the way he moves and plays around the rim -- not super graceful, but long arms and up above the rim on both ends.
Edit: Maybe not quite Williams. I went back and watched some of RW sophomore highlights ... good lord I forgot how long he was and how quick he was to get above the rim. JEEZ. This kid may be somewhere between Nebo and RW in the athleticism and body style/type.
Still a really great get, a style of play down low we don't have currently.

Where does this leave the scholarship situation and count?
I have them at 1 spot over
Taylor
Coleman
Washington
Obaseki
Carter
Garcia
Hefner
Lindsay
Dockery
White
Mills
Turkson
Wilcher
Payne
That's 14
Is that accurate?

Could be, I'd need to go back and watch some of BD's old highlights. Definitely in that same realm of body type and style of play, but for some reason in my head when I think of BD, I think of a guy who never played above the rim. Am probably completely wrong on that, but for some reason that the memory I have of him.bobinator said:

Little quicker and not as awkward of footwork, but very good comparison.

Can somebody criticize his game and tear him down as a player so I know that I'm still on the TexAgs basketball forum...

Seems like a nice player that fills a need for us! I especially like that he has 2 years to play.

I'll be honest, this is probably my No. 1 memory of BD -- being a student at the time at that game, was standing right there on one of the first rows with him coming right at us...
But yes, after watching some highlights, thats a decent comparison. Not a muscled-up big who is going to bang around inside and play off 2 feet like maybe Marble or Tyler Davis did, longer arms, pick-and-roll lob guy (but maybe not jump out of the gym like RW).
Also, much love to BD and how good he was for us, that memory is just burned into my brain, watching him come right at me in slow mo before falling.

Yeah, I mean he had some dunks but was mostly a below the rim guy which is kind of the vibe I get on Payne too from the clips I've seen. Most of his dunks are on clear paths, mostly seems like a guy that creates space and has a pretty soft touch. He's a little more athletic than Davis for sure, but not in that athletic realm of like Williams or Jordan.
Maybe like a 60% Davis 40% Elonu.

Fairly certain Coleman and Hefner don't count on the 13 as they are COVID seniorsBB1994 said:

Nah, the BD clip to end all BD clips is the one where he pissed off that Tech fan:
Same fan that Marcus Smart got into it with later.

I wondered about that, but didn't know if that only counted for the initial post-covid season(2020-21)
It's difficult finding the details of that from the NCAA.

I think they do count now. I think the only year they didn't count against the limit was two years ago. But again, it's probably best to just not worry about it and wait and see what happens with the roster.
At this point I just assume everyone has indefinite eligibility and that roster limits don't mean anything.
