Running down Texas A&M's recruiting efforts at QB & DB
Among the most important positions in each recruiting class are the additions at quarterback and in the defensive backfield. With a number of standouts across the nation, Mike Elko & Co. are zeroing in on their top targets at signal-caller and in the secondary for the 2025 class.

Houston area recruiting notes
I've got a few notes this morning from around greater Houston as the Aggies and Mike Elko position themselves for some of the city's top targets. - The Aggies are going to get multiple spring time visits from CyFair DL Landon Rink. I've spoken about the job Elko, Sean Spencer, and Tony Jerod-Eddie have done here, and it sounds like A&M's primary competitor at this juncture remains Oklahoma. Rink played youth football with RB commit Deondrae Riden and even tweeted last night that the two may have to link up again as teammates in college. Really like where things are at for the Aggies with one of the top defenders in Houston. - One name I probably haven't mentioned enough in terms of where he sits on Mike Elko's wishlist is Spring Dekaney TE/HBack Nicholas Townsend. If you haven't watched his junior tape yet, I highly suggest putting it on your to-do list if you're a fan of this recruiting stuff. He's a special athlete for that type of position, and it's a spot that Collin Klein has a history of success with in his offensive system. A source in the area thought the Aggies were in as good a spot as any right now, but there was still some recruiting to be done. Ole Miss and Texas are also squarely in contention. Townsend is set to make a substantial move up our rankings in the next round of updates. - How the secondary class unfolds will be an interesting watch. More specifically, I'll be watching to see which prospects get big pushes by the coaching staff throughout the spring and summer. I'm also keeping an eye on North Shore standout and Ohio State commit Devin Sanchez. A couple of contacts have told me that he's been in communication with members of the Aggie staff, and I still believe we'll see him make the drive up to campus at some point this spring. Other Houston area secondary candidates for this class include Ft Bend Marshall CB Caleb Chester, Klein Oak CB Courtland Guillory, Ft Bend Hightower S/NB Kade Phillips, and CB Cobey Sellers from Shadow Creek. - Texas A&M appears to be moving in the right direction with Hitchcock WR/ATH Kelshaun Johnson. This is a recruitment and relationship that I think had gone stagnant toward the end of last fall but has been reinvigorated with the arrival of Mike Elko and Holmon Wiggins. The two parties have been in communication much more often recently, and Johnson was seen rocking some Aggie gloves over last weekend at a 7 on 7 event in The Woodlands. Texas is also very much a contender here. - Another wide receiver I'll be interested to follow through the spring and summer is Shadow Creek's Jacorey Watson. Texas A&M offered in late January, and he was on campus the following weekend for Junior Day. There's no question about Watson's ability with the ball in his hands, but he just hasn't played much receiver up to this point due to team needs. He spoke extremely highly of A&M and Mike Elko following that visit, and a south Houston source told me last weekend that the Aggies would stand a great shot at landing him with a strong push this offseason.
