Edgerrin Cooper always seems to have a hunter’s mentality.

When an opportunity arises, he strikes.

Competitive and persistent, the Aggies can always count on him to deliver a good meal.

Cooper, an avid hunter both on and off the field, was finally named Southeastern Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday morning.

“Finally” meaning he has made compelling cases for SEC honors pretty much all season.

In a loss to then-No. 11 Alabama, Cooper came up with 11 tackles, three sacks and forced a fumble. Against Auburn, he compiled eight tackles and two sacks.

Saturday was no different.

Cooper posted seven tackles (six solo), two tackles-for-loss, one sack and four quarterback hurries in the 30-17 victory over South Carolina.

He was the catalyst in limiting the Gamecocks to just 33 net rushing yards and 176 passing, and he also broke up a pass and forced his second fumble of the year.

With A&M continuing to surge defensively, Cooper leads the SEC and all Power 5 teams with 15.0 tackles-for-loss on the season. His 6.5 sacks rank 15th nationally and tied for fourth in the conference.

It goes without saying that his 52 tackles also leads the Aggies.

As the Maroon & White hope to close the second half of the season successfully, they’ll keep depending on the leadership and production Cooper provides.

Nice to see LB as the leading tackler on defense for a change

He is old school Wrecking Crew and Coach Alan Weddell said the same about him.

It is fun watching him blow up a lot of these guys we face and that includes him blowing up Jaylen Daniels to cap off one hell of an effort at the end of 2022.

I don't get it where Durkin lines him up across from the slot WR at times, but 45 is fast enough to cover and opposing QB's better be on the lookout if he does crash down from that spot. QB's & RB's can't get away from him and he rarely whiffs.

Has really been fun to see 45, 21, and 24 ball out this year. Hope they can keep the LB commit's that we've received for the '24 class.

"Hope he stays for his senior year."

McKinneys & Billy talked about this on Friday. If he isn't going to project as a 1st or 2nd Rounder, need to take care of him via NIL $.

I remember Devin White coming through town in 2018 as the "All-World LB" and Coop is just as fast, intelligent, and hits just as hard.

Gillespia outran White to the edge on a play where we needed yards to keep a drive alive, late in the game.

It's rare that you see people moving faster than 45 in the area code where he works.

It would be incredibly fortunate and absolutely outstanding if he opted to return for 2024 and decapitated the tu QB to seal an Aggie W in that one!

If he can get just four more sacks, he gets double digits which is a great predictor of NFL success
