I think it might seem like that just because the inactivity of the other two is just so stark.

Brandon Sanderson has a confession to share.

He just kicked in the teeth of GRRM and Rothfuss. It's been ten years since they finished a book and he wrote 4 (FOUR) Books in a year or so.

This is actually not correct.

He wrote the 4 additional secret books on top of the other 5-10 books he admitted he was writing during that time.

Honestly Sanderson writes so much and dedicates so much time to his fans I have zero problem throwing money at his kickstarter. There hasn't been a book of his I haven't enjoyed and he seems like a really good guy compared to the terd that is Rothfuss.

Sanderson deserves the millions from his kickstarter, no one writes like him right now.

At this point, may as well just have Sanderson finish it all. ASoIaF, Kingkiller, Gentlemen *******s, etc.

I posited a theory a couple years ago that Sanderson actually has finished Game of Thrones and when they reach out to Sanderson he'll just hand over the manuscript.

IIRC, Sanderson said in an interview he had no interest in finishing Martin's series. It's not his style of fantasy.

There's quite a few things in that "article" that made me roll my eyes. Are the two authors they quoted even popular? Or are they only ones they could get a quote from?

It's a shame all those people were forced to give Sanderson money… /sarcasm

Jealousy and I feel like this is click bait with a couple quotes from no name authors.

Supposedly, this it the real account of Mercedes Lackey, a fantasy author who has written like 250 books.

She's with Penguin (https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/authors/240764/mercedes-lackey).

Rothfuss is with Penguin (https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/authors/169770/patrick-rothfuss).

I'll believe it when I see it. There's a part of me that thinks this book was just so bad, he could not edit to a point he felt happy with the finished product.

I'm one of those who loves both of the first two novels, and can devour them in a week or so, but I am nervous about him jumping the shark in this one...

I'm worried he's created a new villain named Dlanod PmurT that Kvothe has to fight. And despite all the hate, man I love these books and the world building so I really hope it's legit. ALthough I will need to re-read at least the 2nd one to remember what the hell is going on.
WARNING: I have a deep-seated desire for others to love the Star Wars franchise as much as I do, in exactly the way I do, and get snippy and sensitive and passive-aggressive when they don't.

This thread popping up again reminded me of a reddit post from a couple of weeks ago calling him out for never following through on chapter reads after fans donated to his charity.

Seems to me like he's not doing anything at all these days.

https://winteriscoming.net/2023/03/28/where-is-the-doors-of-stone-charity-chapter-that-patrick-rothfuss-promised/amp/

"According to the Captured in Words video, Rothfuss told fans that the audio reading for The Doors of Stone chapter which he had offered as a backer reward would be released no later than February of 2022. Writing on his blog in December 2021, Rothfuss said he was having meetings with voice actors to pull it all together, and everything seemed to be going well.

That was the last official communication about it. There were no other blog posts and no updates from the author beyond him mentioning in one of his livestreams that he was having trouble nailing down schedules and things were "moving more slowly than [he] would like." That video is from April of 2022. As of this writing, we're approaching the one-year mark since even that small update.

Of note, Worldbuilders did not run a charity campaign at all in 2022, the first time it has taken a hiatus since its inception. Rothfuss seemed to confirm that this break was so that he could (very understandably) focus more on his personal life and everything else he already had going on. But the fact that it also coincides with this lapse in delivering a substantial backer goal makes it easy to raise uncomfortable questions."

The guy just needs to admit that he set up way too much story to complete in one final book. He could probably do it Justice in 3-4 more, but I don't have faith he's interested in completing it anymore.

I bet he's got respective 1, 2, and 3 volume manuscripts that have finished it up and are just sitting in a vault somewhere waiting on the publisher to ask him for it. Probably wrote them over a weekend while taking a break from writing something else.

I would imagine Sanderson is not capable of telling that story, because he doesnt have the same writing voice/tone as Rothfuss at all. Unlucky for us

Well now he's a well Established author that has in many ways passed both of them. Certainly rothfuss. Why would he want that headache?

The funny thing is, the bump was actually an "update", or more lack of an update, on the series. At least we're back on the right topic.

This is sad, but I've already forgotten the plot and almost all of the character names of this series. Crazy considering how much I liked the first 2 books when I read them. I'm not going to re-read them though until the 3rd book comes out(if it ever does). Rothfuss and GRRM are two peas in a pod. They can't seem to finish their best book series.
