What is that? A young rattler? Something else completely? I'm not familiar with that tail coloring…educate me!

I'm guesstimating about 3.5-4ft. I never heard a rattle while standing there. He did start to curl, like he was going to strike when I got too close.

I've always heard Timbers are pretty shy about rattling but have zero personal experience around them (knowingly).

Steady incidence of 4-5' rat snakes in the chicken house. Probably I should start closing the door at night. They're very good at finding their way to it.

I had one that came back probably 8 times. At first I was moving him out of the yard, then a I took him a mile from the house. He got out in the truck during that trip which was very exciting to my, at the time 3 & 4 yo boys. He showed back up about a month later, so I finally took him to a spot 10 miles from the house and he never turned back up

Could not get phone out quick enough but Saturday morning running down a back fm road caught a glimpse of about a 3' rattler crossing road and into patch of mixed wildflowers. A parents nightmare.

It's a buttermilk racer. You must be in far east Texas.Mas89 said:
The white spots are unusual.

First they hood out and puff up and hiss, and sometimes feign strike. Then if you prod them with a twig a few more times, they flip over and writhe about upside down, and release musk, then after a bit they freeze that way, mouth open, playing dead and smelling not so nice.

Thanks for the insight Guy's. I saw the vertical lines on the mouth & coloration so thought it was a PBWS.
Cant say I ever ran across a hognose except for seeing pics on here. Loved the informational facts about the snake as well. The knowledge of the outdoor board is why I come here :-).

It is a gecko but I am not sure exactly what species. I threw dozens of them on my sister and her friends growing up.
