Individually paint one side of each board to be a big mural that when put together says "have a nice day you tightwad". Put the fence 1cm inside the property line. Put the boards up paint side out.

Sit back and have a bourbon neat.

Do a fake Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace ad stating that your boyfriend just moved out but left a 5 gallon bucket of loose change behind and it is too heavy for you to move, and it is free to the first person that comes to get it, then post his address with the ad.

Just paint his side of the fence in glow-in-the--dark paint.

Roofers, tree trimmers, landscape guys, at&t, spectrum, house painters, etc, etc. It's a constant barrage. They always seem to come when we are eating dinner, then act surprised when I'm less than thrilled. No soliciting signs don't do anything to deter.

In the commercial real estate world I was once a tenant rep broker which is an old school, hard-core, cold-calling, door-knocking deal. You would suit up, go to the top floor of an office building with a portfolio full of marketing material and business cards and go knock on doors and try to get the receptionist to give you enough info to set a meeting. It was probably a 1-in-500 success rate which could pay off very well but it's tough. Think the iconic Alec Baldwin monologue from "Glengarry Glen Ross" is very much the vibe. I was only on that side of the business for about 5 years though, almost all of it through the "Great Recession" where deals were hard to come by and I realized I am not cut out for that deal.

So, while I'm almost certainly not going to use the services or buy whatever those solicitors are hawking I do respect the hustle and politely decline. That being said, our pest control company is a reputable one and has done a good job but they got my business because their sales dude was out pounding the pavement and knocking on doors in the middle of August in Houston. I figured that kind of hustle was worth going with.

I'm not saying their job is easy. I'm in sales. I know how much cold calling sucks. I use to have to do that. Knocking on doors has to be harder. That said, we clearly have a no soliciting sign. They ignore it. I'm not being very polite at that point. I don't cuss them out or anything, but open the door, immediately say no thanks, and shut the door. If they knock again, which some do, they then might get some attitude.

This. I am working from a home office now and we recently moved into a new subdivision. Solar guys, pest control, lawn care, AT&T, guys wanting to stain the fence, guys wanting to epoxy the garage floor, etc. etc. All in a subdivision with "No Soliciting" signs at the front. I don't mind the one offs that are just there because they actually are working next door or across the street and want to offer a free quote. But the guys from companies that show up every other week, ride a segway from house to house dressed in slick polos and hats with the company name and carrying a handful of marketing materials, tell me they are "working with" my neighbor so and so (when I know it isn't true), and then try to keep me talking when I politely tell them I am busy working and not interested...those are the guys that I eventually end up getting rude with.

For the stubborn ones that want to keep talking, I explain that it doesn't do them any good to keep standing there talking to me when there is zero chance they will make a sale that day, so I am trying to keep them from wasting their time as well as mine. If they want to keep talking, then I will tell them it is a no soliciting subdivision, tell them that they are interrupting my work day, ask for their full name and corporate phone #, and ask them to please take our house off their sales to-do list and stop harassing us. Asking for their name and # usually is enough to get them to shut up and leave. If not, I just close the door in their face.

Stand in your front yard eating cheese and cured meats while staring at his house (bonus if you're cutting the meat with a large knife).

1. Legal
2. It'll confuse the hell out of him
3. Good excuse to eat cheese and cured meats

Why not just do nothing and let God judge him. Tomorrow about 2000 years ago a guiltless, innocent man was nailed to the Cross and he said "Father forgive them for they know not what they do."
If your neighbor is such a DH let God take care of him.
No need in you lowering yourself to his level.
You are better than that imho.

I'm voting for this.

Three days ago, I was helping an ag replace their roof. 7 doors down, in a neighborhood of people that had already had replaced roofs, stood one roof that clearly had defect and damage. Against my better judgement, I decided to knock on their door and see if they needed help. I'm good at what I do and can accomplish things others can't. The door had a giant sign that said "Happy Ramadan". Seems nice enough. After knocking, a guy opened the door and without missing a beat said "get the f- out of here. I don't want it. Don't you EVER knock on my door again." I said "wow, well, have a great day." This was responded to with a "go f- yourself." It put me off. It almost ruined my day. But why?

You have to remember that some people just hate life. Your neighbor isn't mad at you. He isn't a jerk because of a personal vendetta against you. He hates his life. He wants to be angry. You are just the object of his anger when you spoke to him. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Read the parable of the empty boat and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Started to read your story thinking you hooked him up somehow. Perhaps he was having a bad day that can explain his actions. If you do want to help, write him a letter apologizing for knocking on his door and work things out from there. Those who are hurting the most sometimes like to put up a front.

Why in the world would you answer the door if you are not expecting someone? Just let them knock, they will go away.

My HOA has us call the non-emergency police department number to report door to door salesmen. Since we are a private neighborhood with proper signage, including no soliciting, the cops come and escort out the vultures. I have called 5-6 times and magically the word got out. Haven't had problems in over a year.

But back to the topic at hand, definitely go with air cannons and frozen poo.

I have a clear glass front door so it's hard to ignore the solicitors. I do respect the hustle. A lot of them are young adults trying to make a living in a very difficult way, while most of their peers are making tik toks crying about how America won't pay them a living wage.

I certainly would never be rude or disrespectful unless they were first.

I had one who would not stop knocking and ringing the doorbell. I got on the Ring and told him I wasn't interested. He persisted. I opened the door and said I'm not interested. He said, "interested in what? I haven't told you anything yet." Then I lit him into him and he left. I don't know if they had coached him to give that response, but it pissed me off and I don't rile easily.

experienced a similar situation a couple times. Our dining room is right be the front door. Had them knock on the door. We ignored. They saw us eating dinner, so they proceeded to knock on the window and wave at us.

I know I've failed but I've never seen her really in person. The times she's been over she never gets out of the car and the little girl, who as I understand the neighborhood gossip, isn't his but his step-daughter is dropped off or picked up.

"Get the **** off my property! Now!" worked for me.

Afterwards I realized I was wearing a vacation tee from Disney trip. "Have you ever had your ass kicked by a fat man in a Mickey Mouse Chewbacca shirt? Because you're fixing to" would have been a good second choice.

I just turned away a "local roofer" that walked 1/4 up a private road and a very long driveway wanting to look at my roof that. may need work. I politely said no....closed the door....he walked off...came back....and then suggested a drone. NO. He then walked away back down my very long driveway and took two pictures of my home while he retreated. I contacted the company he supposedly works for to let them know I am not impressed.

Mail order ex-wife? Decent chance for $100 she'd sell you a sex tape with the new dude.

It'd be a shame if those were playing on loop in a window facing his home.
